Scene: Deck 9, Crew Quarters
LaRue sat in his quarters and ran his fingers through his high and tight. The last time he'd worn his dress whites was for a friend's funeral. That wasn't the best of feelings to have right now.
He'd lost men and women.
He shrugged his left shoulder and rubbed it, nursing the disruptor wound he'd recieved. Damn his luck, he'd been in charge of sending security teams out to die and had moved down to engineering to defend the core personally. The thought turned his stomach, and he popped another antacid into his mouth, chewing without even tasting the chalky substance.
He'd have to have a drink with Gordon and Washer some other time... Gordon had done an excellent job as a tactical officer... one of the advantages of having CIC and TAC work and train together.
He stood up, grabbing the 'ceremonial' sword that had been given him by a marine friend long ago. A Toledo style blade, the hilt was emblazoned with the celestial globe and anchor. He wistfully touched the filigree on the hilt and remembered better times. But now was not the time for fretting...
Standing, and readjusting the phaser 1 under his tunic, he donned the belt and placed his dress cap on his head. If all went as he thought it might he'd be wearing something other than white...

He walked each deck, returning the salutes of marine and sailor alike. SGTM Harper at his side, LaRue was conducting a last inspection before going to the 'party'.
With a nod and a firm handshake, followed by a mutual salute, LaRue left the responsibility of securing the interior of the ship to SGTM Harper. LaRue had one two-fold task now. Defend the chain of command, and keep the ship intact. This would be a long, long day.

I'm back... LaRue is no longer concussed, and I'm no longer under a rock on Mars (Try the fish, it's wonderful...).
Let's see if this time the ship doesn't go to hell in a handbasket(with a pretty pink bow). :)
