I have the Mac Engel book about Texas Stadium -- in addition to key
Cowboy games, he has chapters about significant college & HS games, as
well as non-FB events like concerts, etc.
One significant event that was omitted from the book that I thought
merited inclusion was the Moscow Dynamo-Dallas Tornado soccer match in
1972. The Soviet team was making its first-ever appearance in the US,
and defending NASL champs played them to a 0-0 tie.
It was the first time that "major-league" soccer was played at Texas
Stadium. I attended the game, and it was the first time I'd ever seen
big-time soccer. I enjoyed the match, but it didn't spur me to go out
and take up soccer.

What did they do with the huge hump in the middle of the field?
My only soccer game was at Stanford stadium in 1984; Brazil was
playing in the Olympics and the crowd was incredibly exciting as was
the game

game. In 1994, Plano East played Tyler John Tyler HS in a UIL playoff game.
IIRC, Plano erased a 24-point deficit in the final 3 minutes, only to see
John Tyler run a kickoff back with 24 seconds left.
It was pure happenstance that I was there. My wife and I had married the
previous July, and we were in Dallas getting the rest of her stuff she had
in storage. She wanted to go shopping, and a friend who taught at Plano
East invited me to go to the game instead of letting our wives drag us
around the mall.
I've never seen anything like that...before or since.

The game was sold-out; I gave one of the ticket takers $10 to let me
in (it was John Elway's last college game and it was always a
rivalry).
No ticket, I had to sit in the Cal student section. So when Stanford
scored the "winning" touchdown, no one moved so I couldn't leave.
Lucky for me.
On the way back to BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit), I walked by
fraternity row and they were celebrating big time and I was invited to
join one fraterity's celebration. Lucky I was taking public transit.
