I only heard today about the premature death of former Championship and
Premiership Referee Peter Foakes a couple of weeks ago.

Peter used to be my Games Teacher when I was at secondary school and a
better teacher you couldn't wish to find. He was extremely supportive and
approachable, and put in many hours of his own time assisting the various
school teams.
He was very popular with pupils even those who were particularly limited
when it came to anything relating to sport.
When I was at school he was still refereeing at Reserve level e.g. Football
Combination but the fact that his last game was the Division 1 Play-off
between Bolton and Reading shows how well he did thereafter.
I remember him getting some unfair stick regarding an F.A. Cup Match between
Spurs and Notts County where he was criticised for not sending Gascoigne off
when he elbowed a Notts County player in the face. There was no way he could
have seen it as both players were heading towards the sideline and had their
backs to him at the time of the incident. On this occasion it was the
linesman that got it wrong, as he would have had a clear view of the
incident.

Like most supporters I don't have a lot of time for referees especially the
arrogant ones like Ellerey, but in Peter Foakes' case I can honestly say
that any decision he made was purely for the good of the game and not for
his ego.

He will be sorely missed

Yes he will missed. A good man and a gentleman. I also went to Colbayns. He was an excellent teacher. I cannot add to what you wrote except that he made sure the teachers within his dept. were similar in their attitudes towards the students as he was. A pleasure to have known him and to have been taught by them all.

If he dies, he dies...

When a freemason is being initiated into the third degree he is struck
on the forehead in the dark, falling back either into a coffin or onto a
coffin shape design. His fellow masons lift him up and when he opens his
eyes he is confronted with a human skull and crossed bones. Under this
death threat how can any freemason of third degree or higher be trusted,
particularly in public office? He is hoodwinked literally and
metaphorically, placing himself in a cult and under a curse.
