Everton 2 Chelsea 0
After mid-week mediocrity Pochettino rang the changes and rested
Chelsea's two top scorers for the trip to Goodison Park (Jackson &
Sterling) giving Armando Broja a start up front. Fresh legs looked
the sensible option after the trip to Old Trafford on Wednesday. But
despite having 71% possession and more shots, Chelsea were actually
more toothless than ever!
In the second half Chelsea started to throw everything at Everton
but the Everton defence just sat back and soaked it all up. Chelsea,
as usual, had no guile at unlocking a packed defence.
Reece James continued his run of getting injured and was replaced
early on by Colwell. We all love Reece James but he misses more games
than he plays so he probably shouldn't have been made Captain. His
main concern should be getting himself back to full fitness and
staying fit! Let somebody else try and lead the team, Reece doesn't
need that pressure on him right now.
Chelsea are consistently inconsistent and this defeat just piles the
pressure on for the tough Christmas schedule ahead as they slip down
to 12th in the table. Which is exactly where Chelsea finished in the
Premier League last season. So despite all the talk of promising
young players, long-term plans (etc.) the reality is that no
progression has actually been made when it comes to league position.
It's one step forward, two steps back. <shrug>
Sheffield United at home next, so... <fingers crossed>
