He is suspended for two more games in the league so we cannot pick Cech.

When all else fails twat it with a hammer.
Er... he wasn't injured, he was suspended... and still is in the Premier
League.
> Hasn't his substitute looked more reliable in the few games he has had?
Hilario will be playing against Aston Villa tomorrow obviously, but Cech
is Chelsea's Number One goalkeeper, so I can't see Ancelotti dropping him
in favour of Hilario. Looking good against a toothless Liverpool team
doesn't mean that Hilario is a great goal keeper. But as cover for Petr
Cech he is adequate.
Actually just watching Chelsea TV, and found out that he isn't! As it was
only a one match ban and not three as I thought. Ooops!

I thought a straight red card was an automatic three game ban.
Oh well you learn something new all the time.

Useless Fact 02 In the artic the sun sometimes appears to be square.
I had to look it up earlier, as I remember the TV pundits at the time
saying that Cech would serve a three match ban. But then today I saw on
Chelsea TV that Petr Cech was back for the Villa game. It seems in the
Premier League a straight red card is an automatic one game ban. Although
a straight red card for violent conduct is a three match ban. The referee
obviously deemed that Cech's challenge, while a foul, was not violent
conduct. Which is fair enough.

I knew he was back for Villa. God knows why I said "fit" instead of
"available".
But the question remains. I am no expert on Chelsea's keepers, but Cech
has looked
a bit indecisive at times recently and his replacement very assured.
LC
I am no expert either, just a fan, but I would fault Cech for the second
goal yesterday at Villa Park. He was too decisive in coming for the ball
there! But the defence in general hasn't been that great, especially from
set pieces, so I wouldn't put it all down to Petr Cech. Hilario did have a
good game against Liverpool, although he didn't have too much to do
really. I do think overall though that Cech is the better keeper. No goal
keeper is perfect. If Ancelotti can improve the marking at the back and
generally tighten the defence, Cech will be a lot more secure and we might
not let in some silly goals...

I agree about that second goal. If you are going to come out then go through
with
it. Not sure that the first should have been in his territory either? This
was really the
point I was making. Fine keeper that he was, hasn't he shown weaknesses at
contested crosses a bit too often recently?
LC
IMHO Cech hasn't been the same at coming for crosses since the head
injury. Maybe that is a simplistic view, but it does seem that at times
his thoughts are more on trying not to let anyone head butt him in the
temple while they are going for a ball, than just thinking about getting
to the ball first. Not that I'd blame him after such a horrific injury
mind you. But it's true that Cech hasn't been the same 'keeper that he
once was. - My mate [Simon] has a view on it too, he reckons that the
goalkeeping coach that we had under Jose Mourinho was a lot better than
the ones we've had since! (?)

I think you are probably correct. I thought he was once as good as any
keeper
in the world, but couldn't say the same now, and the bouts of uncertainty
seem to
have arrived since the injury? I sometimes wonder how much confidence
Terry
and the other defenders have in him in certain situations? A touch of
unease maybe?
LC
He seems worse when it comes in at an angle (corners etc) I wonder if
the head protection causes some sort of blind spot from the sides and
he then misjudges the speed and angle of the ball.
Absolutely not. Cech is worldclass and just needs time to settle back
into the team, he showed that against Athletico.
Let's be honest, Cech has been a liability over the past couple of
seasons. I have no idea what the hell has gone wrong with the guy
(and no, I don't believe it is simply down to the head injury). He
comes out when he should stay, stays when he should come out, flaps at
most crosses, his concentration seems shot, he doesn't organise his
defence like he used to, his decision-making is flawed to say the
least... These are all things that he used to do well, so why have
they all gone so wrong so suddenly?
Personally (and this no doubt shows why Carlo is one of the finest man-
managers in the world, and I ain't), I would have kept Hilario in the
team.
And having seen the Villa goals, seems Hilario should have remained in
the team after all...?
He's certainly gone from being one of the to best keepers on the
planet without question, to being pretty mediocre. There's also no
doubt he has gone downhill rapidly since Jose left - but then, the
entire defence has IMO.
Y'know, it's funny you say that, but I wonder if the fact that his
ears are covered in the padding of the head protection is affecting
him too. He can't hear as clearly what's going on around him, but
maybe it affects his balance too.
Think we might be onto something there.
