I just want to say that Steve Sommers is by far the WORST on air radio
personality anywhere. His incompetence is staggering. His lack of sports
knowledge is beyond belief.
Steve Sommers' voice is the most irritating whine ever heard over the
airwaves. His endless me here, you there crap died a long, long time ago.
Here's another thing, why does Sommers insist on giving the time
including the seconds? Example: "It's 12:43 and 38 seconds". He makes you
want to tear your hair out.
This man can't possibly bring in the ratings. You people out there who
don't get to hear Sommers, Rejoice! You don't know how truly lucky you
are.
Who said the best talent is in New York? Who said only top shelf people
make it here? Steve Sommers is a living testament that this is just not
true.
WFAN should be ashamed of themselve for hiring this dumbass.

IMO, Steve Sommers is one of the best guys WFAN has. He is the only on air
personality who has a personality. He's has a good sense of humor, and he
does have good knowledge of sports. Most of the time he is joking around,
but he still informs people on their questions. The one place where he
gets me pissed off some times is when he fucks with my Islanders or as he
says "Icelanders", but I can't blame him, he's a Ranger fan and hates the
Islanders, and its vice-versa for me. I know that I could never be
objective talking about the Rangers, just like he is with the Islanders.
As for his "me here you there" and "11:35 and 35 seconds", thats what he
is known for. Do you ever get sick of Marv Albert's "Yes!" or Phil
Rizzuto's "Holy Cow"?

Mike,

With all due respect Steve Sommers should be looked upon as a sports
talk entertainer and a damn good one. The real asshole at the FAN sits
in the chair next to him. Russ Salzberg is supposed to be a sports
"analyst" but his ineptitude is only surpassed by his arrogance which
makes him a far worse person than the "Ayatollah Of Schmoozola".
Listening to Russ is like shitting out a bag of sheet rock nails.

The fact of the matter is that Steve Sommers is supposed to be objective,
not degrading. Sommers treats the Islanders with total disrespect. If he
doesn't like the Islanders, fine. He has the right to not like whoever he
wants, but when it comes to unwarranted criticism, in an attempt to
embarrass any organization, the Islanders or anyone else then he steps
over the line. Sommers is supposed to be a professional, he has to
maintain a level of fairness. You, as a regular citizen do not.
Finally, as for the time thing, it is totally over done. There's nothing
exciting going on for him to do it. Marv Alberts "YES!", and Phil
Rizzuto's "Holy Cow" are done in times of excitement and drama. For them
it's a reflex. For Sommers, it's just to be annoying

This is true, but with Sommers, its just part of his act. And it makes for
damn good radio. I don't get to hear him much now that he is on in the
morning, but during the overnight shows he would always talk up the
Islander-Ranger games. And god forbid (for him) that the Islanders won,
you would not want to miss the show. He would bet Islander fans on the
game, and be forced to actually call them "Islanders" for the whole show,
and non of his bullshit with Messier stealing the puck from Malakov, or
the barn stuff. And it would be funny radio. Sommers is more of an
entertainer than a sports talk analist.

Its not to be annoying, this is his act. Just like with his "schmoozing
under the covers" or "Captain Midnight" thing before every overnight show.
It all a part of his gig. You'll just have to live with it. I'm sure that
many prople are annoyed about Russo's "aaaaaaannd, Good Afternoon...", its
just them and that how i will be.

The "aaaaaaaaand, Good Afternoon..." that Chris Russo does is only in the
introduction at the beginning of the show. He doesn't do it 8 or 9 times
an hour. That is overkill.

I've run out of things to say. I guess you will either have to live with
Sommers, or just turn the radio off.

I don't know of any life form that would go under the covers with
steve. "Me Here You There" thank god as long as I can hear I'm o.k. I
personally love when the conversation switches to the Jets and Steve
blurts out "It's a curse!"

Wholehearted agreement from the pro-Schmoozie camp. Steve Somers is
definitely the most entertaining and wittiest sportscaster on WFAN. My
autographed picture of Steve Somers is a prized possession. It's a shame
that "The Fearless Forecaster" only comes around during football season,
though.

Does anyone know of any Steve Somers websites?
