Could a writer twist, embellish, quote out of context....etc things
any more out of proportion than this person? And then people around
the continent (and further) read this trash and actually believe
that's the real perception and opinion Luongo and the Canucks have of
Thomas. Other than a few competitive, confident responses, I have
heard nothing out this way that resembles the characterization this
writer claims Luongo and the team have for Thomas.
No wonder hockey fans all over are misguided when you have idiots like
this bending and fabricating words for their pleasure.
And then ESPN runs it......

It was a total distortion of what he said Rob. But Luongo has to learn to
keep his big mouth shut. His mouth has got him in trouble in the past,
like when he threw his teamates under the bus eg.

the real problem is that they have to talk and talk and answer the
same shitty questions every bloody day and they're just young guys who
play a game that too many people care about way too much (including
me), so they just sorta say stuff. and then this horrible media, full
of idiots who want to be there instead of people who should be there
(including me? haha), blow shit up and make games of it. i know it's
part of the job and keeping things in the spotlight for ticket and
merch sales, but i'd be inclined to refuse to talk to the media ever
again if i was luongo... it is not what he meant and those idiots know
it and if they don't know it they shouldn't be allowed on tv or in the
paper because their IQs aren't high enough to accurately give info.
like what's his face on the cbc freaking out about it after last
night... luongo didn't back up his trash talk or whatever... absolute
morons!

The initial comments by Luongo were blown way out of proportion, not
just by MacMullen but by many hockey writers. The "pumping tires"
comment by Luongo was foolish at best.

she didn't use the whole quote. luongo was talking about people who
were getting on him for playing too far in the net. he also went on to
say that thomas would make saves that he (luongo) wouldn't. he was not
putting down thomas at all. just pointing out that they have different
styles and his isn't too bad most of the time... he did not mean it in
the way it was used at all. he said it awkwardly, but even one of the
boston players (can't remember which one??) said that they didn't
think he meant it that way. the pumping tires thing was just trying to
be funny. it wasn't funny and was again a bit awkward, but it didn't
mean anything.

I think the real problem is the sudden and unexpected beat-down the
Canucks are getting everywhere in the media. I barely ever heard or read
a word about how dirty and cheap and hated the Canucks are until this
series began, and then within a couple of days they're suddenly the most
reviled team in the history of hockey. Besides being ridiculous, it's
gotta be a little hard on the team. Especially when the steaming pile of
garbage they're trying to play against is being cast as such a good,
clean, hard-working group of hockey boys.
