``Being a Canadian and being born and brought up in Edmonton, Alberta, to
have an opportunity to come back and

finish my career in Canada,

that was one of the things that came into the decision-making process,''
Mark Messier said.

He was thinking of retiring a Canuck?? Huh.

How about the comment from the ill-fated Trevor Linden:
``It's going to be great to be on his side for a while now and not take all
those faceoffs against him,'' Linden said. ``For Vancouver it's outstanding.
We truly have one of the greatest centers to ever play our game.''

Remeber the last 30 seconds of game 6 here in Vancouver, NYR at Van
1994..... "Linden, dead tired, heads for the bench and is viciously chopped
down by Messier as Linden skates by Mark Messier--play goes on"....Jim
Robson said, "and Linden is crawling along the ice TRYING to get to the
bench..... BUT there is going to be a game 7 in New York......and Linden
will be there.....he may have to play on crutches......but he'll be
there..........time's run down..............the buzzer sounds......and the
VANCOUVER CANUCKS ARE GOING TO NEW YORK FOR GAME 7...........

I was so excited listening to my Walkman I dropped my case of beer as I was
tight--rope walking along the electric wire high above Robson Street and I
fell onto the top of the ambulance that was below on the street and then
bounced off the roof and was trampled underfoot by the rioting crowd as they
smashed out the windows and destroyed Vancouver.........and then the cops
had the nerve to arrest me. You'd think I was a Ranger fan....

naaaa, I was sober, and watched it at home and went downtown much later on
(about 4 am as most of the damage was over..........pretty scary
scene.....riot gear police marching by.......a crowd here and there smashing
car windows.......and then the eerie quiet leftover of the riot as I walked
down Robson Street and it looked like aftermath of war zone.............
