Flash forward 3 weeks, and I bump across something...not very hard at all,
and the clip literally implodes. The front of it, with the groove for the
button to slide into shears right off, and there wasn't even a seam
there...it's bizzare.
So the phone falls, and the screen breaks.
f*ck!
Now I realise if I did something careless, I'm to blame....but if you are
going to charge 40 bucks for a clip that costs $2 to make....at least make
sure it has the integrity to protect a $400 phone.
The guy at Bell, goes through the motions and says he is "talking to his
manager" and "trying to get ahold of his Palm rep"
a week later, I am riding blind......I can accept calls, and try to make
outgoing calls, but I have no idea if I am dialing correct. I end up
accidentally calling people at least 5 times.
So I'm sitting at work the other day and I decide to see if I can get a hold
of someone at Palm on my own. The only page I can find with a Palm employee
name on it is a list of the senior Vice Presidents in the US.
I scan through their titles...one jumps out at me.
"Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Customer Service"
hmmmmm.... With a little trickery I manage to figure out what his email
address probably is..... and I think..what the hell...worth a shot. I fire a
polite, and professional letter....
"....I realise you may not hear direct from consumers much but...... .....
integrity of an accessory with your companies brand on it... ...I'm not
asking for a free pass, but wanted to bring it to your attention, and maybe
a compromise.....etc etc.."
I send it and don't think of it again.
.... until I get to work this morning 48 hours later and there is an email
waiting for me, with a reply from that mail, forwarded to someone more
local.
They're replacing the phone for free....sending me a brand new one
first...leaving me with 2 weeks to pull the data off the broken one, and
send that back to them. No shipping charges, no hidden fee...nothing.
holy crap!
The guy at the Bell store was amazed...and grateful that he didn't have to
deal with an inevitable dead end any longer.
So...thumbs up to Mr. John Hartnett.....Vice President of Worldwide Sales
and Customer Service...... you da' man.

Palm's always been like this. A coworker got his Palm immersed in orange
juice. One phone call later, Palm sent him a better one free... a BRAND
NEW one... and I think they even paid shipping.

And to think I *never* had you pegged as one of db's many aliases!
(although, it explains SO much)

Clips have *always* made me nervous, because there is your phone,
sticking out from your body, just looking to get whacked or caught on
something, with a little plastic pivot point the only thing keeping it
from bouncing onto the floor... The leather covers are better, because
the clip is usually much more secure, but it's hard to find a cover
that doesn't irritate the hell out of me.
You want one of these:

No personal connection, just a satisfied customer. I've accidentally
dropped my phone in the case like 4 times from heights ranging from
2-4 feet onto parking lots, concrete, etc. No problems at all.
(Individual results may vary, void where prohibited, etc.)
The case has a clip system also if you're into that sort of thing
although the idea of wearing something the size of a Treo on a belt
clip never appealed much to me. It's usually in my coat pocket,
or if needed, I can fit it into most of my pants pockets (take it
away, db).
I'll look into it. definately trying something different than what I had
tho.
it's the basic Palm one.

i liked the easy access, and I'm not against the design of it....but you'd
think they could mold it with a plastic that is more durable.
stay clear of this one.
Nah, the extra one I have is enough, thanks.
