``I don't even want to talk about that organization anymore,'' says
Gandler, as he
proceeds to talk at length. ``I'm absolutely disgusted with that club
and the way they
do business. I'm sick, SICK! of their gamesmanship and their lack of
respect for
players. I'm not interested in their shenanigans.''
We have seen this show before...I think Karpovstev should ask Yashin if
Gandler did right by him, then look for another agent. If Gandler keeps
this kind of attitude up, he will be scraping bubblegum off the bottom
of old KGB desks in a few years. This guy is a fool...he acts like his
clients are all Bobby Orr or Wayne Gretzky. The Leafs offer of 2.5
million would make Karpovstev the highest paid Leaf defenseman..that is
very fair for someone of Karpovstev's calibre.

He's wreckless with his clients. IMO, Yashin has not only lost a year
at 3.5 million, his value has declined being out of the League for a
year. Karpovtsev is a little different because if he sits out the
year he's a UFA next year, but his value certainly won't improve if he
does. And 2.5 million disappears. If a second Gandler client sits
out under similar circumstances, there will probably be a side-effect
on other players who have Gandler for an agent.

Top-notch defencemen are hitting the 3 million mark now. Gandler is
saying Karpovtsev is one of them. I don't think he comes close. He's
good, but not premier.
He's not a quarterback, he's not a playmaker, he has a good shoot, he
has average speed, and he's injury prone.
He is excellent in the Leaf's end (very disciplined), excellent at
shot-blocks, and very good with passing. His body-checking is solid.
He ranks 2nd on the depth now, and may be 3rd at the end of the season
if Kaberle has a bit more bulk and another year of seasoning. If
Berard had stayed healthy it might even have been a tie for 3rd.
2.5 is a fat offer. Karpo's best interest would be to bring two pens
to the table in case one runs out of ink.
Gandler's cut of the difference between 2.5 and 3.0 is 20k (if he gets
the usual 4%). Two clients sitting out at 6 million makes it a wash
with the sales tax he would pay on his cut from those contracts.
His next enterprise may be Gandler's KGB Bubblegum - Only Chewed Once.
If Potsie's THAT good, then he should sign a one year deal
with the Leafs and test the UFA market next summer.
Gandler's grandstanding tells me that the Karpotsev camp
isn't confident that free agency will bring in the bucks.
Doesn't THAT tell you something about his worth?
I actually like Karpotsev, but 2.5 million isn't a bad
salary for a solid but unspectacular defenseman.

Top defencemen are getting now 5m USD per year. Like fellow Russian Zubov,
are you saying Zubov is twice as better than Karpovtsev?
BTW I don't like Mark Gandler as well! He is a Russian speaking Moldavan Jew,
he came to USA from Soviet Union in early 70's. I just feel sorry for those
Russian hockey players, especially Yashin! Just like in Russia, some Jews
take advantage of ethnic Russians... Once Soviet Jewish friend from USA told
me, "You know why Jews are everywhere? Its hard to cheat each other in
Isreal"

Tough question. Actually Zubov makes $4mil. I tried to extract all
the defenceman who made over 3 million to get an idea about salaries
and skills.
All but one or two of them have signed these contracts as Unrestricted
Free Agents - the player can sign with any team he chooses to. The
team he leaves gets no players, or money, or anything in the future
for losing him.
Karpovtsev will not be in that category until next year.
Blake, Robert LOSA $5,267,500.00
Bourque, Ray COLO $5,500,000.00
Desjardins, Eric PHIL $3,800,000.00
Hatcher, Derian DALL $3,900,000.00
Lumme, Jyrki PHOE $3,600,000.00
MacInnis, Allan SLOU $5,000,000.00
Malakhov, Vladimir NYR $3,500,000.00
Mironov, Boris CHIC $3,200,000.00
Mironov, Dmitri WASH $3,000,000.00
Niedermayer, Scott NJER $3,250,000.00
Norton, Jeff SANJ $3,000,000.00
Numminen, Teppo PHOE $4,500,000.00
Pronger, Chris SLOU $3,675,000.00
Stevens, Scott NJER $4,152,579.00
Zubov, Sergei DALL $4,000,000.00
I do not believe Alexander Karpovtsev is as good as the players on
this list. One team, Dallas, has two players on the list and they
went to the Stanley Cup finals two years in a row. St. Louis has two
players - the brightest star among young defencemen, and one of the
best veterens on defence. They were also the team who finished first
overall in the NHL.
I picked out a few well-known players in a range of salaries where the
comparison is in the range of what the Maple Leafs are offering him.
Samuelsson, Ulf PHIL $2,750,000.00
Marchment, Bryan SANJ $2,500,000.00
Zhitnik, Alexei BUFF $2,500,000.00
McCabe, Bryan CHIC $2,150,000.00
Yushkevich, Dmitry TORO $2,050,000.00
Again, I do not think any of these teams would trade these players for
Karpovtsev.
There is also a process called Arbitration. Either the team or the
player can ask the NHL to decide what is a fair amount for a contract.
Karpovtsev had the right to be compared to other players and did not
choose to do so. Then the contract demand was huge.
> ... I just feel sorry for those Russian hockey players, especially Yashin!
The Russians and the Scandanavians have brought a lot to the NHL, and
changed the game in the process. Do not feel too sorry for Yashin -
he could have honoured his contract and made $3.5 million dollars.
He could have fired Gandler and got another agent - he didn't.
It might be interesting for you to go to http://www.nhlpa.com and
look at salaries for defencemen. You can decide for yourself what you
think is a fair price for Karpovtsev's services for one year.
It might be okay to spew this kind of hatred back in the Mother Country,
Dima ... but it isn't here in the New World and *especially* in sports
newsgroups ...
Kindly refrain from this particular brand of garbage in the future ...
Mark Gandler is the worst kind of terrorist - an agent with a "me first
and how much can I get" attitude, but right about now you're appearing
one notch above ol' Mark on the Asshole Meter here in Maple Leaf land

just get off the boat ?
I think we're more worried about hab trolls, because at least you can reason
with the neo staffelschutzen, plus this guys new (I think) so let him figure
out the no no's of this group on his own
Also a hint for Dimitry - merely mentioning any of that will bring a
floodtide of liberals nazis pedophiles and habs fans confusing us for people
who care about their cause
so anyways back to how the Maple Leafs are going to win the cup ....... game
7 triple overtime Tie Domi gets a breakaway and misses the puck on a
slapshot then flys into Ed Belfour as the puck slides in ........

Well, I don't know about that. I have never had any trouble with Jewish
people. It would not surprise me though if Gandler had connections to the
Russian mob and he used these connections to recruit and retain clients.
Bill
Now that would be real funny... I know, according to "North American" media,
most well payed Russian players connected to "Russian" mafia... Bure finds it
"interesting" Even though he doesn't know if he is victim or a boss there...
I'm sure with help of Kournikova, he'll figure out soon.
Dima.

Source? It was widely reported that Sergei Zubov signed 5 years, 25 million
USD with Stars!
Leafs need Karpovtsev, defence wasn't that great with him and it will be
worse without him... Its a in Leafs best interest to sign or trade
Karpovtsev, because if he doesn't get what he wants then he just will play at
home for a year and then he'll be UFA...

"If it makes you happy it can't be that bad..." Sheryl Crow
Don't know, but after Dimitri's post, I'm guessing that Gandler knows
the Mother Country and the New World, and brings a lot of value to
Russian players who look at earning a living around the other side of
the world. If they'd even heard of other agents before they flew in,
it was probably Alan Eagleson ...
Yeah "new world" is free from "hatred"!!! Full of idiots... I don't blame
Jews for anything, I just say the facts and what Jewish friend told me, but
freedom of speech didn't reach your brain, just yet...

h-h-haahahahahahaa. Nice comeback!

lol.
"Obviously" you haven't been "reading" the "North American" media mi amigo
de rus, Bure was "traded" for Fedorov by the upper management at Kournikova
inc. because Detroit went a round further, and Tony Soprano has whacked
everyone who funnels russians over here for hockey purposes outside of
Jersey, you see Mr. Soprano and Mr. Lamoriello are in kahoots, living in the
garden state and all, I wonder when Gandler will be sent sleeping with the
fishes by Paulie Walnuts, Christopher Moltisante, Furio and the crew

It was in the post, but here it is again http://www.nhlpa.com
Right about the contract and terms. May be something like 4mil, 4mil,
5mil, 6mil, 6mil to make $25mil over the five years.
>Leafs need Karpovtsev, defence wasn't that great with him and it will be

Agreed. The NHL needs Karpovtsev and Karpovtsev needs the NHL. Now
find the fair price for his services. If he believes he is being
cheated at 2.5 million, he should stay home and play for the Dynamos
and take his chances on what teams will think he is worth next year.
Agreed. The Leafs defence was a problem last year and was not solved.
Agreed that it will be a problem this year if Karpovtsev does not sign
or they cannot trade him to another team for another defenceman.
It will be a bigger problem for years to come if they pay him a great
deal more than he is worth.

Whoa! If he sits out a year, will he still not owe the Leafs a year?
If I remember correctly he would not gain UFA after sitting out a year and at his age, it
would be a big gamble.
Kirk
Don't think so. As it stands he doesn't have a contract and when he
hits 31 he's a(n) UFA.
