This to me is all I needed to see that they've turned the page. Worried Grier was hired so he could be "shown the ropes", AKA controlled, so the failure organization types could keep their jobs.

He's not. He has real control. So excited, the first rays of hope in many years.

A positive move, for sure. But, there was also a previous organizational statement (dictated by whom?) that the Sharks were NOT in a rebuild. If and until that reality is confronted, they can't make the right moves. They need to jettison all veterans at whatever cost, as soon as possible. It's going to be a long road back, but they need to start walking.

From what I'm seeing so far (no Vlasic buyout and trading 11th for more pics), they are definitely not in a win-now mode. They're in a 3-year plan to allow time for prospects to develop and to ride out dumb contracts (Vlasic, EK65). These organizational changes, as mentioned, are hopeful signs that Grier is willing and empowered.

I still don't understand why the R-word is so taboo. Are they afraid that EK65 or Meiers will want to jump ship? who cares! There will most definitely be a directional shift with a new front office, and to be honest, they're not going to make the playoffs in the next two years anyways so they should plan on getting back into the playoffs in 3-5 years. We're far behind LA, Vancouver, and Anaheim in terms of a "rebuild" and the Flames, Avalanche, and Oilers are much better teams right now.

Not sure why r-word is taboo. It could be a real problem, it could also just be a reality that they will have to very slowly right the ship over 3-5 years. There is talk of trading Burns.

How likely are those drafted players to make the roster?

Didn't they send the Swedish kid back for more experience?

So if the second rounders make the team, they could lower their payroll?
