lindros didn't get much playing time in the few games he played, i
suppose because he'd been injured for so long. he threw a check or two
but didn't really have any good chances. with so many penalties, too,
that kept him off the ice. of course, they showed a few angles of "the
hit" in the last game 7 (and playoffs) he played in. i watched it
several times (have to love dvr with rewind) and it still looks dirty.
he's pretty upright and stevens just puts his elbow, even though it
was tucked, right up into his head. no shoulder involved at all.
anyway, tippet put him on a line with modano and morrow once they
trailed to get some O going, but didn't amount to much. best chance
was a one-time wrister by modano off a cross-ice pass with only a few
minutes left but he hit the cross bar. a little karma coming back for
the game 7 post nathan lafayette hit in the waning minutes in '94
against the rags maybe? as much as i hate the rangers and don't want
them advancing, i'd love a vancouver cup rematch this time with the
canucks getting home ice.
on another note, man did atl and nashville get hosed on their trades
with us, seeing how they're both out in the first round. even though
i'm still bitter that forsberg as captain basically allowed himself to
be traded from the worst team in franchise history to a 1st place
contender, how can you not be happy with the return on that
deal....esp. now since the flyers 2nd 1st rounder will be in the low
20s.
go the canucks!

That was a hell of a play. Luongo was beat badly and Modano put it just an
inch or so too high. How many times do you think Modano will replay that
shot in his mind during the off season? Weird game. Way too many
penalties and although I didn't think the officials did a great job, most of
what they called was legit. Luongo and Turco are both fantastic goalies.
Is this the kind of play we've been missing from out goalies for the last,
what 15 years?

Looks like the only team I had left to root for is done. The Knights are in
the conference final, but down 3-0 to the Plymouth Whalers. They've scored
exactly 4 goals in the series so far. So much for Gagner and Kane...

First round revisited
My predictions and what happened:
West
Detroit vs Calgary - Detroit in 6. - Detroit in 6
Anaheim vs Minnesota - Anaheim in 6 - Anaheim in 5
Vancouver vs Dallas - Vancouver in 7 - Vancouver in 7
Nashville vs San Jose - San Jose in 7 - SJ in 5
4 out of 4 with 2 dead on!
East
Buffalo vs Islanders - Buffalo in 5. - Buffalo in 5
New Jersey vs Tampa - NJ in 5 - NJ in 6
Atlanta vs Rangers - Rangers in 6 - Rangers in 4
Ottawa vs Pens - Pens in 7 - UGH - Ottawa in 5
3 out of 4 with one dead on
I think that is the absolute best I've ever done. Round 2
Buffalo vs Rangers - I think the Rangers will play them well but
Buffalo wins in 6
Ottawa vs NJ - I think the Sens finally get to the conference finals -
Sens in 7
Detroit vs San Jose - San Jose in 6
Anaheim vs Vancouver - Anaheim in 7. almost tempted to pick
Vancouver. I've cooled on Anaheim.
Its in the best interest to have the Ducks and Wings lose being the
final four end up drafting 27 thru 30 and both Anaheim and Detroit
finished higher than the Predators. Like you mentioned Jon, the pick
will be in the low 20's.

Buffalo in 6, Ottawa in 6.

Sharks in 7, Ducks in 5.
Go the Sharks!

modano had him totally beat, and i'm sure he'll go over that in his
mind for years. hockey IS a game of inches, no question. part of what
makes is so fun yet so maddening at the same time.
agreed that the game was weird. dallas was all over them in the first.
and really thought they'd just keep their foot down and never let
vancouver into the game. very little energy from the fans. vancouver
playing like it was a random game in november. but then the parade to
the box began. to be fair, these kinds of calls have been made all
year...there were just an awful lot of them. what i don't get though,
is how they can make every ticky tack fucking tap on the pants hooking
call and miss a blatant check from behind into the side boards
committed by dallas. how do you not see that and not think it's a
boarding call? there have been A LOT of these during the first round
and many are not being called. seriously, wtf?
i'm hoping biron can bring this kind of play to the team, but i have
my serious doubts. i still feel like we don't have a goalie, and i'm
so fucking tired of it.

Rumor has it, and I heard this awhile ago, but apparently Philly could
have had him for Carter and a 1st rounder......if so....arrrrgggggg!!!

If you look at what Atlanta was trying to do (make the playoffs) vs.
what Nashville was trying to do (make a long playoff run) then Atlanta
was definitely more successful with their deals at the deadline. I think
that's fair, considering the way the Forsberg soap opera went.

I disagree 100%. I have watched the hit many times. It was all
shoulder during the hit. The "elbow" that everyone seems to gravitate
to, does not appear until the post-hit motion. Stevens' elbow did not
do the damage. Coming across the ice parallel to the blue line from
the boards, perpendicular to Lindros' motion, essentially coming from
"nowhere" to Lindros' eyes......connecting a devastating
shoulder....that is what KOed Big E.

I disagree 100%. Stevens came from the boards, across the ice
parallel to the blue line and perpendicular to Lindros' motion. This
made it appear, to Lindros' perception (not that he was looking), that
Stevens came from nowhere. Stevens delivered a devastating shoulder
hit. The now famous "elbow" that the dirty hit conspirators fixate
on, is the post-hit motion of Stevens' arm. The elbow did not factor
into the hit. It was Stevens' shoulder that KOed Big E. This was not
a dirty hit.

no, i was talking about who i wanted to win, rather than my
predictions.
and yes, it is sad, b/c basically whoever i want to win, in virtually
anything,
rarely does.

regardless of Atl's "goal", they gave up a ton in prospects and picks
to get
zhitnick and tkachuk. imo, hardly worth making it to the playoffs and
losing
in 4 straight.

i just see it differently, at least from the two angles they showed
during the game the other night. the part that appears to hit him is
from the bicep down to the elbow, not his shoulder. it doesn't look
like his shoulder ever came into contact with him. i agree that him
just being hit from the side with full force, regardless of the actual
body part is really how he got hurt.

if that's all it would have taken, then clarke is a fool. for someone
who's own cups are so directly related to the play of a goaltender to
not be able to understand their importance is beyond me.
