If this game were anywhere other than a Canadian building the ref
would not have called that goalie interference penalty. No doubt.

There was no doubt Canada would kick some ass on the PP and then get
the GTG. I'm still a bit stunned that the U.S. actually won the game
as I've been making U.S. Junior comparisons to the Flyers, like you,
in both CAN/US games. Canada's huge problem, besides trying to be too
fucking individual(The U.S. actually did a great job playing as a
team, defensively,) was their shitty goaltending. I don't remember
watching too many spectacular saves on either side, though, but there
were some really awful goals let in. Then again, when was the last
time a decent goalie came out of the Jrs? Fleury? Rask? It isn't
like there are a ton each year.

Maybe I saw it wrong, but I could have sworn I saw his angry face
after he got hit from behind and then he sort of took it out on the
goalie with an extra "nudge." It felt deserved, from my POV, and I
was rooting for them to win, so it isn't like I'm arguing a point just
for the sake of arguing. I'll have to check out a replay, though,
since I feel like the only one who thought this to be true.

I agree with you but as a Canadian my opinion is suspect, no? I
actually said "Idiot!" as soon as he contacted the goalie. It just
looked like a total lack of discipline at the absolute wrong time.

It was a great game. I think the officiating was dodgy a few times and
against both teams, but that is the nature of international hockey.

The goaltending was not great. At the junior level, skating and raw
talent is on display. Great goal tending comes from experience so the
skaters are way ahead of the goalies.

But yes, the goaltending was wretched in that game, particularly from
the Canadian goalie. Seemed he'd never used a catching glove before.
And yes, that was a penalty at the end. As the forward, you have to
know that you're going to get called unless you do everything in your
power to avoid contact with the goalie.

American kid came in, the Canadian kid hit him pretty solidly as the
American kid was coming to a stop. The force of the hit threw him
towards the net and the goalie. Just before he hits the goalie, he
lifts his right arm to brace himself going into the net. The arm makes
contact and the goalie falls pretty easily IMO. He then flys into the
net and uses that arm to brace himself wrapiing it over the crossbar.
At full speed it looks somewhat blatant, but when you slow it down and
watch it, you can see he wasn't trying to make contact with the goalie
in any way.
But, whatever...it's irrelevant now.
