I rather like the team as is.

1: Forsberg returning.
2:Tanguay.
3: Sundin.
4: Marleau

Jeff Carters name seems to be involved with most of the names.

Heard any others?

Seriously, are any of these guys more than a rental and worth giving up
on Carter who seems to be rounding the bend? I mean, why give up on him?
They can make the cap room for him by being smart. Him, Richards,
Umberger, Hartnall, Upshall, Lupul...they have a well rounded offensive
group. I don't know that any one of these guys in the rumours puts them
over the top this year for the Cup, and that's the only reason to do a
deal that results in the loss of Carter. (Forsberg excepted, since he's
an FA, right?)

The Foresberg one is the only one I heard. Somebody posted the Sundin
one in here, but I haven't heard it anywhere else, so I'm not counting
that one. The other two, I've never heard anything about until I read
this post.

The Tanguay rumor came from Hockey Night in Canada this past
Saturday.

From that drunked up Toronto reporter? Isn't he usually full of it?

i've only heard the forsberg and sundin rumors. the forsberg story has
legs for obvious reasons, and sundin just doesn't make sense to me
based on the package back. why would they give up that much for an
aged rental? with forsberg they can shed a couple of parts to make
room.

if they do nothing and find a way to keep carter and umberger, i'll be
just as happy. if forsberg does come back, and it's not to philly, i
hope he goes out west. if he's healthy, i say, find a way to bring him
back. he makes any team better. the question is who do you pair him
with? put him back with gagne and knuble is an obvious choice, but how
does that affect the rest of the lines? does that become the #1 unit?

i'm not interested in marleau or tanguay. or sundin for that matter.

I've heard that he could be going to the NY Islanders.

I think Mike Green of the "Caps" is trade bait.

What? Do you really think Washington will be able to sign Mike Green
after all the money the spent on Alex Ovechkin?

If you think like Homer, then you think smart and long term. (Vandermeer
was a good move.)Carter's name comes up because he may not be signable.
Then again, since he's not having a breakout year by any means, he could be
in a great position to be resignable, maybe 2 years at 3 million per, or
something like that. If he senses that would be dreaming, then hell yeah
Carter could go. If Carter ain't staying anyway, we'd rather have Forsberg
in there.

But I think Homer will only trade Carter for something more than a rental.
I think Homer knows that this is not necessarily our year, but just a really
good step in the right direction. So, no, I don't think any of the rumors
are true, except for Forsberg, because there wouldn't be any trade, and I
think Homer, like me, knows that Peter is still amazing and an asset to any
team. The chemistry issues are overblown. Regardless of foot issues,
Forsberg has the ability to change the whole mood of a playoff game:
slowing down the pace, very subtle defensive plays, etc.

Since Homer won't trade for an expensive rental of a forward, any changes,
other than Forsberg, would be defense or goal. I could see us trading a
young defenseman (say, Kukkonen) and a pick for an experienced defenseman:
I would think he'd deal for Brian Campbell or Aaron Ward. I bet if Homer's
shopping, we're talking Dan Boyle. Tampa Bay has to rebuild its defense and
net, and they've got no money, and a Randy Jones or Kukkonen or Nitty could
look awfully good to them, plus a pick. If not, watch Homer sniff around at
Mike Commodore (mobility) or Aaron Ward (bad fit, but three rings).

There's one other possibility I could see -- again, none of the names
mentioned. If Carter is going to be leaving anyway, for cap reasons, and if
Floppa isn't coming to replace him, then I could imagine Homer renting a
true defensive center, thus freeing up Briere and Richards to just score.
If Peca were available, then he'd be the guy. Holik would be a possibility,
too, and possibly wouldn't cost very much more than a prospect and a pick.

I was sleepy when I wrote this. I have no idea when Boyle will be healthy
again -- I haven't been keeping up. And so I meant that I really think
Homer will see how much Campbell would cost. Or Peca/Holik.

Unless there's something happening in the locker-room that we are
unaware of, I like things the way they are. Any move by the Flyers
should be a deal for defenseman. They've got one of the deepest teams
tight now at forward. No superstar center, but 4 solid centers that can
be rolled without a second thought.

Don't even entertain these types of rumors. Ok, if this just has to be
done, sign Firsberg then trade Cote to Edmonton for George Laraque and
Keith Duncan, then trade Forsberg again to some sucker for top prospects
and #1 picks.

Most "experts" are predicting only a puck-moving defenseman pick up - if
there is one available - or possibly some type of sharp shooting winger. I
agree, I don't see the need for any drastic changes and I really don't think
we'll see any from the Flyers. They do love those old guy pick-ups at the
deadline though but if he's old, I hope he's a d-man who can skate and pass.
Who's out there? On the blogs today, the hot rumor was Phaneuf to Jersey
which would really suck if true. But the Devils would have to send Parisi
the other way and I don't see that happening either. Parisi is a good
one....he's going to be a thorn in the Flyers side for awhile.

Boyle's supposed to play within the week. If his tendon is healed and
he's in game shape, I'd take him on the Flyers in a second.
