Congrats Stevens, even if you had most of us scratching our heads at
times. Genius is oft misunderstood, indeed.
I still think he got lucky and the team rode the backs of the likes of
Richards and Timo. ;-)

No... "patience" is often misunderstood, as is "progress". The team's
turnaround was awesome and he played a massive role. Now he needs to
build on it, as expectations are higher. The bar has officially been
raised.
Ya right. He moved some chairs around in the dressing room.
The janitor could have done that :-)

No, I don't think the janitor could have shown the patience that Stevens
exhibited to stick to his plan in arguably what is one of the three toughest
towns to coach hockey (Toronto, New York then Philly). I think fans have a
tough time seeing the forest from the trees sometimes and you have to take a
step back from the emotions in order to judge the progress of a team. It
was clear that the Flyers were a vast improvement over the previous
incarnation - which arguably wansn't too tough a task in itself - and were
building a core group that would carry them for the next 5-6 years. The
next step will be harder. They need to be more consistent during the
regular season and get at least to the third round of the playoffs. I still
think they are a year away from being at their best but anything can happen
depending on injuries. Congratulations to Stevens on the award and I hope
he can enjoy at least 24 hrs. of satisfaction because that is about all he
will get. Isn't the Avalon training deal today? To me, this is the official
start of the season.
Stevens even cleaned the toilets!!!

Alright, I like all of what you said, but Montreal instead of New
York, easily.
Yes, you're right - definitely Montreal before New York. You could probably
make the case that the other Canadian teams play in tougher environments
than New York as well.
He had some help from other coaches. One of them just earned themself
a coaching job on the WC.
Stevens was humble and declared his award a team award appropriately
so. Having said that I'm very pleased with the way he pulled the team
together when he had to. Here's to hoping there is no need for
drastic measures next season.
