We don't, but the Flyers do, unless specific language finalizes the trade
pending Chokemanic's signature. Now if the Flyers can ditch some of the
other play-off non-performers.

Kings Acquire Cechmanek From Flyers
By KEN PETERS, AP Sports Writer
LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Kings (news) acquired goaltender Roman
Cechmanek from the Philadelphia Flyers (news) on Wednesday for a
second-round choice in the 2004 NHL draft.
The Kings have decided to part ways with goalie Felix Potvin (news), who can
become an unrestricted free agent July 1. The Flyers began looking to deal
Cechmanek after they lost to Ottawa in the second round of the playoffs.
"I'm so excited. It was my first choice to play in L.A.," Cechmanek said
from the Czech Republic during a conference call. "It is something new, it's
great for me, gives me a new chance.
"I think maybe it will be different hockey. The Kings play offensive hockey
and I like it, more offensively and more European than in Philadelphia."
Asked if that meant he wants to face more shots than he did for the
defense-minded Flyers, Cechmanek said, "I like it when I get more work and
more shots."
Cechmanek, 32, had a 33-15-10 record in 58 regular-season games for the
Flyers, and his 1.83 goals-against average was second in the league to
Dallas' Marty Turco. Cechmanek's .925 save percentage was third-best in the
NHL.
His career goals-against average is 1.96, lowest among goaltenders with at
least 150 regular-season games since 1943-44. He has 20 shutouts.
An NHL All-Star in 2001, Cechmanek has played in 163 regular-season games
since Philadelphia drafted him in the sixth round of the 2000 NHL entry
draft.
Los Angeles general manager Dave Taylor believes Cechmanek is a good fit for
the Kings.
"His track record speaks volumes," Taylor said. "We feel our coaching staff
will be good for him to work with."
Flyers general manager Bob Clarke said after his team's six-game loss to
Ottawa that Cechmanek's inconsistency in the playoffs would make it
difficult to bring him back.
"He shuts a team out one night, but when you get down to the nitty-gritty
and you let a soft goal in, it takes a lot out of your team emotionally,"
Clarke said after the series.
The goalie's stock with the organization - and fans - obviously went down
when the Flyers were eliminated in the sixth game of their series against
the Senators.
Cechmanek was fully aware of the boos from Philadelphia fans.
"I hear what people say. They hate me. I don't know why they hate me, hate
our team," he said after the playoffs.
Asked Wednesday about his stay in Philadelphia, Cechmanek said, "We had a
couple of problems, not big problems. In the playoffs, maybe it wasn't
great, but not bad.
"It was tough for people, but for me, too. I don't know why that was the
situation. I play for fans and teammates, but the Ottawa team was very
strong and they played great."
Taylor said the Kings would pay all of Cechmanek's salary, reportedly $3
million next season and $3.5 million the following year. Potvin made $3.55
million this season.

No need to tell you you DON'T want Potvin......
Hopefully the Flyers don't want him either ;-)

This is EXACTLY the problem -- when Clarke doesn't like a guy, he gives
him away for beans. He lets personal animus get in the way of the deal
(the Lindros trade looks good now, but if he had become the player he was,
we'd all be wondering why all we got was Johnsson and {in effect}
Brashear.
Brad McCrimmon, Klatt, Cechmanek and others are great examples.

my gf suggested the same thing, and i dismissed it completely. maybe you're
both onto something here; being that clarke is such a complete moron, he'd
put himself ahead of the team.
The fact that he got it done so quickly for so little seems to point in that
direction. I'm hoping that Cecho was in fact a major benefactor of the
defensive system and that any goalie that stands between the pipes for the
Flyers will have good success. Hoping ;-)
Rick
Then why was Eshe's win percentage this season so much lower than Roman's?
And he was usually played against the softer teams?

That's the theory right? And also what kept Roamin' from being "the man",
he just didn't get enough work...and he "thrives" on alot of shots.

"The great body of our citizens shoot less as times goes on. We should
encourage rifle practice among schoolboys, and indeed among all classes, as
well as in the military services by every means in our power. Thus, and not
otherwise, may we be able to assist in preserving peace in the world... The
first step in the direction of preparation to avert war if possible, and to
be fit for war if it should come is to teach men to shoot!" - Theodore
Roosevelt, Famous Gun Nut
Possibly because he only saw action about once every four games. It's kind
of hard to get in a groove when you're not the man. He started out with
numbers very close to Cechmanics, but then they tapered off as the seaoson
went on and he started to see less action.
Rick
What kept Roman from being the man is his tendency to wander around and his
unwillingness to learn proper positioning ie.... dropping to his knees while
holding the paddle on the ice for plays too far from the net. He was great
on break-aways and head saves though.
Rick
why? it's very simple. because his playing time was severely reduced in the
second half of the season; a coaching decision not based on his performance,
but based on their choice to prep Roman for the playoffs.
in the first half the seaon, when he played with regularity, his numbers
were outstanding and he was arguably playing better than roman. he suffered
when he got to play once a month, and there's nothing surprising about that.
the kid is 25 and needs to play in order to develop and gain confidence. you
don't do that by playing every four weeks. and cock's perspective on the
matter was ridiculous imho.
i'm very confident that if he gets a chance to be the number one guy, he
will become just that.

Hello. Trent fucking Klatt? You think Trent fucking Klatt was worth
$2 mill + a year that he got in arbitration? The same Trent fucking
Klatt that got assigned to the minors in that oh-so-talent-rich
Canucks team? Give me a fucking break. Trent Klatt was, is and will
forever remain a 3rd liner/4th liner. We can get players like that
for future considerations. Here's a list of equivalent players:
Sacco, Kallio, Marty Murray (who's actually better than Trent fucking
Klatt), Lapointe (who is also better than Trent fucking Klatt). Bob
Corkum had a 33 goal season once, IIRC - shall we pay him $3 mill a
year (hey, 33 goals is more than Trent fucking Klatt's 20).
As for Cechmanek, let's face it - he blew it in this post-season. He
was the reason we lost. What the fuck are we going to get for a
goalie that is 32, making $3 mil a year, is inconsistent in the
playoffs and a bit of a headcase?
I advise everyone who is bitching about the Cechmanek trade to read
Gerald Olchowy's post in the "A frigging 2nd round pick for Cechmanek"
thread and tell me which team would be willing to give up a first
rounder and/or prospects and/or players for Cechmanek?
Or do you think that while he isnt good enough for the Flyers, he is
good enough for Detroit and Colorado? Use your fucking brains, folks.
El V.
PS: Trent fucking Klatt my arse
That's bullshit. Clarke lives and breathes Orange and Black. He
hasnt gotten us a top notch goalie (if only he had signed Cujo), he
hasnt gotten us a top-flight offensive Dman who can QB the PP and take
the workload off Rico, true.
But I do not see him ever putting himself ahead of the
team/organization.
Maybe my brain is wired the same way, but I understand - and kinda
like - the way he handles things (especially the
blowing-up-at-the-press question). He does what he thinks is best for
the Flyers and he doesnt care about the PR aspect - I dig that.
I know I sound like the president of the Bobby Clarke Fan Club, which
I am not, but I think this NG is too eager to bust on him for no
particular reason.
I'm not that concerned about our regular season goaltending. Pretty
much every goalie we've had in the past 10 years has had great regular
season stats - even Hexie during the tail end of his career.
I'm leading the "Bring on Biron" brigade.
El V.
He would be a decent acquisition, IF he doesn't cost the Flyers any of the
core players.

If that is the only change the Flyers make, I think you are going to be
disappointed by the results again next year. Cechmanek let in a soft goal
or two, no doubt, but this team is going nowhere with special teams play
like we had in the Ottawa series. If you want to point to "the reason we
lost", you need look no further than the horrid power play.
Exactamundo.

Don't forget to include the shorties on the PP vs Toronto as well.
I had blocked those from memory...

Absolutely. If our PP could have managed to be merely even (as opposed
to -2 or -4 or whatever they were) we might have squeaked by Ottawa.
