Rumu played all of his minor hockey in Hearst.....my father coached
him during all those years....3 players from those teams were drafted
by the OHL.....Rumun, my brother Marc (by North Bay), and Joel Gagnon
(by the Oshawa Generals).....these 3 were extremely close
friends...unfortunately, Joel Gagnon was killed in a car accident
almost 2 years ago....it was the first time I saw Rumun (who came down
for the funeral) since he had left Hearst...he came back last summer
for my brother Guy's wedding.....actually, Rumu came down shortly
before Joel's accident for a high school reunion....\
Joel Gagnon was drafted by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks a couple years
into junior hockey, and Rumun by the Edmonton Oilers......as for my
brother Marc, he never played an actual game for North Bay since he
would have lost his eligibility for a US scholorship.....he played
junior hockey in the US Junior Hockey League for Thunder Bay....he
then got a scholorship at Bemidji State University (same as Joel Otto
earlier), where they won the US National (NCAA) Championship 2 years
ago against the University of Alabama (Birmingham).
Believe it or not, but among 2 boys and 2 girls in Rumun's family, he
is actually the smallest of the whole gang!.....His younger brother
plays basketball for a university in London, Ont.....and his youngest
sister supposedly excells in figure skating.
By the way, his last name is pronounced: "En-doo-re"
Lance Lafleur
very cool-- thanks for the inside info.

>I've known Rumun (the "n" is silent, by the way) since he was about 6

Terrific post ... He can easily become a fan favorite here if his attitude
continues ... and from what you write here i dont see why not ... Get him to
work on his skating ,,, that needs work ...his stick/puck/body control is
rather methodical or text book like ... maybe your dad's coaching is still
there ...
In the Village ....
I am not a number ... I am a free man !!!!
>London,Ontario. Rumun was recruited to play Junior B hockey, and
>eventually made it to the big club, the Guelph Storm of the Ontario
>Major Junior Hockey League. A few years later, he was a late round
>draft pick of the Edmonton Oilers....he was drafted by chief scout
>Barry Fraser, also a former close friend of my father's (he used to
>live in Hearst, was my father's baseball catcher, and married my
>mother's best friend).
Ndur was drafted in the 3rd round (69th overall pick) of the 1994
draft by the Buffalo Sabres. He was scouted by Don Luce and drafted by
then Sabres GM John Muckler. He was NEVER drafted by the Oilers. For
awhile you had me believing some of this fairy tale.
Joe
You are wrong.......just think.....Rumun drafted in the 3rd round?
C'mon!......He's a good friend of mine, but for gosh sakes, in the 3
rd round?.....nope.....actually, I think he was signed as a free agent
by Edmonton.........released (he told me he asked for it) and then
signed as a free agent by Rochester (Sabres farm team).......but he
never, never was signed or drafted in the 3rd round by Buffalo and Don
Luce......sorry!
"Buffalo chose Rumun in the third round (69th overall) of the 1994 NHL Entry
Draft."
