I've been noticing this for years now (for almost twenty years), and
probably many of you have, but, during Tuesday's game between the Habs and
the Rangers, I couldn't help getting bored of seeing Gretzky whining and
complaining about EVERY SINGLE PENALTY (and I mean ALL OF THEM, NO
EXCEPTION) called against his teamates. I know, he's been doing it for
years (as if all his buddies and teamates were always right/never wrong),
but doesn't anybody think that it's becoming to be far enough? Of course,
he's THE GREATEST, and, seriously, I agree with that; but sometimes, he's
a real pain in the butt.

The NHL is considering right now (and testing in the AHL) some ways of
reducing the time lenght of the games.
I'm am here and now proposing one: if Gretzky doesn't retire, he should
only be allowed to play with his mouth taped (or sewed, or welded,
whatever). Literaly.

IMHO Gretzky has forgoten more about hockey than the refs will ever know.
He has been the true leader of every team he has ever played for. It is his
job to point out to the ref when he thinks his team is not getting a fair
shake...even if he is wrong. Other captains do the exact same thing, they
are supposed to.

Despite all of his attractive qualities, anybody who knows hockey knows
that Gretzky has been the league's number one whiner ever since he entered
the league.

Alot of the refs in this league have been here as long or maybe even longer
than Gretzky. And studying the rule book and making calls for 20 years is
gonna tell you more about the rules than playing the game. Besides that,
the ref can't possibly be making a bad call every single time he blows the
whistle.

Not to mention the number one player!!!! Anyone who has done what he has done for
the sport of hockey should be allowed to speak his mind to anyone he wishes at
anytime he wishes. Just my opinion.

I guess you're also of the opinion that Mark Messier conferring with the
Canucks management and alienating most of his team-mates is a good thing,
too.

To be quite honest I don't see how this has anything to do with the topic. The fact
is that it is the Captain's job to argue every possible thing to give his team the
advantage on the ice. The management and the referee are two totally different
things. If Messier wants to confer with the management of any team, that is his
prerogative. If he feels it will help the team, I give him my full support.
