1) Speaks French fluently
2) Knows the players well
3) Has had a long relationship with the GM
4) Former Jack Adams nominee
5) Will cost the organization nothing, since they're already paying
his salary.
6) Fans were chanting his name at the end of the season and the
playoffs.
Well, just imagine it! Gainey admits to an error, showing a little
humility and willingness to learn from mistakes. The people who care
about such things get a French-speaking coach. The Habs don't hire
yet another rookie coach. (Gainey might want to wait until after he's
signed Kovalev and Dandenault to announce this move, though!)
I don't think I'd be all that thrilled with this situation. From what
I've heard, Carbo really did have shitty communication skills. And
his use of players (Metropolit on the PP?) was pretty puzzling. I
also think it's highly unlikely. But hey, this is the silly season,
so why not throw a silly proposal out there.

No, Carbo never seemed to push to get more from his players, nor was
he successful at keeping them at the top of their game. He didn`t seem
to use the players strengths to any advantage, he played them all,
like they were strong 2 -way players, able to be on the ice in any
situation. He was never subtle at sending messages to problem players
he'd over play someone, even though he wasn`t happy with their play,
then snap and bench them, sort of an all or nothing approach
