What do you guys know about him?
Do the Penquins have extra defencemen now when Gonchar is coming back,
or is there something wrong with Whitney?
- Lauri Tarkkonen
Because Eklund said it it won't happen...that is all that should be
taken from his words. He gets rich by making shit up.
Yep..If Bob McKenzie says it..I'll tend to believe it's possible. Bob
actually does due diligence.
Otherwise, it's one level above "bar talk" ..

Both, I'd say. Actually, the first part is a little dubious... the
Pens will get Gonchar back, but even then while they do have a great
many defensemen around (they just sent Goligoski to the minors for
example and are shuffling guys like Gill, Eaton, and Boucher in the
pressbox), there really shouldn't be too many that are better than
Whitney. You'd think. But for a $4M player with a long-term back-
loaded contract, Whitney isn't playing up to the standards of that
contract, and the Pens have their big-3 forwards now, along with
Fleury and Gonchar in the $5M+ club, and seemingly a lack of scoring
depth to complement Malkin and Crosby. Pens fans have been offering
Whitney all over their trade boards to get a winger, and indeed, the
Kovalev-Whitney proposal has been oft-made from fans.
I wouldn't jump up and grab it... Whitney does seem a bit soft and
klutzy to me. But he does have size, he is young, and he has already
put up some solid numbers in the past. He's not worth $4M right now,
but if your pro scouting tells you they think he has it in him to get
there again, well, it might indeed be a gamble to think about. You'd
have 4 years to work with him. Hamrlik's contract will go away after
2 years. Kovalev shouldn't cost more than Whitney if you want to re-
sign him. So it's not a no-brainer to me that you make that deal.
But it's worth thinking about.

Does he really get rich by these?
- Lauri Tarkkonen
Still waiting to see VL land in MTL as Bob reported on a little while
back... THEN I will say he is dependable!

Lauri, are you asking or are you trying to say that one cannot get
rich from drawing people to the their website, presenting statistics
to advertisers and then getting major sponsorship?

I know that "selling crap" can make you rich. I just thought there would
be some competition even in this area and there could be someone more
credible that would make some more serious money than Ek. Becaue I do
not follow him, perhaps because of the untrustworthy reputation he is
given here, I must say, I am surprised, if this can make him rich.

Have a look at the machine of an operation he has, his sophisticated
website and the major advertising he has and you will see what I mean.

Just went for my first visit.
Sophisticated? I would rate that site as pretty amateurish.
Major advertising? Well, only if there are a hell of a lot of
Muslim Singles who watch hockey :-)
As for his accuracy, it is irrelevant. The more careful he
is, the fewer rumours get posted, the less discussion on his
website, the less traffic, the lower advertising.
And most of these "insiders" are wrong way more often than
they are right simply because no team wants information on who
they may be interested in or who they may want to get rid of
in the public arena unless it serves a very specific purpose.
It's purely a vanity site and there are obviously as many
people over there who want to play that game as there are in
here doing the same thing.
But he's not getting rich....

I suppose, I have to believe you, there is no law against being stupid,
and making money by being stupid or writing stupid predictions about NHL
trades is perhaps not much immoral than fleecing people by promising
them eternal salvation, like some other people do or like Bernard Madoff
fleecing some people who had more money than brains or Cheney having
business interests in lots of enterprises getting lucrative business
opportunities in Iraq.
Of course making stupid prediction of trades is much more risky, in the
sense that you get more easily and definitely caught by missing the
target. Of course Ek is only loosing his reputation, but I believe that
Madoff and his family still have a few hundred million tucked under the
maddrass after the dust clears.

Also Best Buy and IBM...pretty big sponsors for a hack like that. A
source close to Eklund told me he's getting pretty rich from that
site...can't say who but a pretty good source. he! he!
