I noticed that too and wondered the same thing. That shuffledboard pass
behind the Wild goal was quite obvious.
Minniman
That was the most flagrant. There was also one along the near boards where a
Canuck defensemen stopped a high clearing pass with his hand and "dropped" the
puck by redirecting it back into the Wild zone where it was picked up by
another Canuck player.
Yep, I saw that one as well. I was wondering why they didn't call it.
Dave in Minnesota
Although it sounds silly that's the rule.

Me thins it was because it was in Vancouver (sp). The home team ALWAYS
gets away with illegal activity.

Yep. Here it is:
Rule 59 (e)
(e) A player shall be permitted to stop or "bat" a puck in the air with his
open hand, or push it along the ice with his hand, and the play shall not be
stopped unless, in the opinion of the Referee, he has deliberately directed the
puck to a teammate in any zone other than the defensive zone, in which case the
play shall be stopped and the puck faced-off at the spot where the offense
occurred. Play will not be stopped for any hand pass by players in their own
defensive zone.
OK, there's the rule. Is this a change from my years as a fan, up to 1992?
I'm not sure when they changed the rule

and you call yourselves real hockey fans! I'd be embarrassed. For
those of you who like the crap Minnesota calls hockey and what the
rest of the NHL calls duller than lawn bowling (effective, but MAN is
it lame to watch) the hand pass is fine as long as it is in the
defensive zone.
Maybe he means they came back to play the Wild.

Thanks. I sure don't remember it being legal when I was an avid fan.

Bad prose alert! Subject and verb do not agree!
I was the one that returned to hockey, not the Stars returning to Minnesota. I
finally gave up my animosity towards NHL hockey a couple of months ago and
hopped on the Wild bandwagon. There was a lot more room on the wagon last
February, BTW.
I didn't know that hand passes in the defensive zone were legal, since it had
been 10 years since I'd followed hockey, and it was illegal back then.
Oh, I thought you used "wild" in a sentence as both the verb and subject.
"Did you see that wild Wild game last night?"
Also, remember that...
- It's a penalty to play with a broken stick, EXCEPT for a goaltender.
They can play with a broken stick.
- A play is only Offsides if the ATTACKING PLAYER moves the puck into
the offensive zone. If a defender sends it back, then no player is
considered offsides.
Along with the hand-pass, those are a couple of things that I had to correct
people in my section on during this last season. Surprisingly, a lot of
people are surprised that an Icing call needs to be touched-up. But that's
probably a good sign -- shows that they've been watching College Hockey...

Is a Canuck's hand pass behind the Wild's goal line considered the
defensive zone?
