ON THE MEND:
Boston Bruins defenseman Jonathan Girard, nearly five months removed from
a near-fatal car accident that left him with a crushed pelvis and broken
neck, recently underwent follow-up surgery on his intestines and is back
in a Laval, Quebec, rehab facility, making steady progress.
"He's doing pretty good," said agent Bob Sauve, who figures Girard, 23,
finally will make it home this month. "He has to use crutches that, you
know, sort of wrap around his arms, but he's working hard and walking a
lot."

So it looks like he's come a long way, but he's got a long road ahead
of him before he can ever step back on the ice in the NHL. No matter
how you look at it, he's lucky to be alive. Glad he's on the road to a
healthy recovery.
Wow! I can't believe how much progress he's made in such a short time. He's
definately got the drive and hunger to come back. As long as it is
physically possible for his injuries to be overcome, I believe he'll do it.

I hope so. Of course, it'll be pretty amazing if he can just live a
relatively painless life, but man do we need him to be able to play.
