I saw this today on an IHL mailing list and was VERY shocked... The person
who wrote it says "have heard some rumours"... lets hope thats all it is!!

Didn't the Cyclones begin in the ECHL, anyway? This would certainly be a
step back. But I'm afraid, it's not looking good for the IHL. At least the
IHL teams aren't just named after parent clubs (see Louisville Panthers,
Wilkes Barre Scranton Penguins, St. John Flames, St. John's Maple Leafs,
Providence Bruins).

It's clear that the IHL is having problems keeping teams. Let's face it at
some point we will be left with one highest level minor league teams and I'm
affriad that may be the Ducks. I like the Cyclones and the FirstStar Center
so much more, but if teams keep leaving the "I" what are we left with
anyway. I wish the Cyclones could merge into the AHL and go head to head
with the Ducks that would be fun, but very unlikely. Could you imagine the
large crowds when the two teams met. Another factor could be the effect of
having the NHL 100 miles away with 65 games on Fox Sports Ohio being fed
into our market. I think we should count ourselves blessed to have two
minor league hockey teams even if one of them is in the ECHL or another
lessor league. In a market this small that is amazing.

I think the fans of the Cyclones would be surprised at the "bang for
the buck" they would get if the team would go to the ECHL. Having
been a follower of the ECHL for the past few years, the caliber of
hockey is surprisingly good and the instant rivalries between the Ohio
teams would only be a help to all the franchises. I hate to see Cincy
lose their IHL team but going to the E is not a fate worse than death
by any means!!
