Hard to know how things will shake out until after training camp, but here are my current thoughts. They should go heavy on TE's with four: Davis, Reed, Paulsen, Paul. I think Paul is worth keeping since he is versatile (provides depth at TE and WR) and is a good special teams players. To make room on the roster, I would trim the numbers of WR's to 5 and cut Briscoe. If they need addition roster space, I would put Grossman at the top of the list since many teams only carry 2 QB's. Plus, even if one of the two QB's goes down, there would still be a decent chance that Grossman was still available and not signed with another team.

I don't know about the Paul experiment. He didn't block very well, and dropped some really easy passes. When you only get a couple of looks per game, you need to catch the ball. That one TD he had, he almost dropped also.

You have a good point, that he is good on special teams, and could also be a backup WR. He just needs to improve his focus when the ball is in-flight, along with his blocking. 'tana, who is 25lbs lighter, blocks better than Paul.

Given the state of Griffin's knee, I'm not comfortable with only having 2 QBs.

Instead of Paul, another option might be Pat White as a utility guy who could possibly be used in a variety of ways - special teams, rb, wr, and 3rd string qb.

Yeah, I'm all for getting a one-trick pony whose one trick Griffin already
does better than Tebow could ever dream of.

If they hadn't drafted Jordan Reed, then it might make sense to pick up Tebow, and then convert him to a H-back/FB/Tight end. But based on how the roster looks now, I dont think they could fully utilize Tebow, unless they use him in the Niles Paul role - primarily special teams player, and backup at a few other positions.

Of course, I'm getting way ahead of myself, and this is assuming Tebow would be open to the idea of converting to another position. If he's hell-bent on playing QB in the NFL then he needs a serious reality check because it aint gonna happen. He might be able to play QB in the CFL, but I'm not all that certain about that either.

I agree. He could run the read option fairly well, whereas Grossman could not. For that matter, Tebow would probably run the read option better than Cousins, but overall Cousins is the better QB. But, I dont think Tebow would be happy just being a third string QB since that's basically what he was last year with the Jets and while he may not have lots of teams seeking him, as a free agent he still has the freedom to pick and choose to some degree.

Maybe not if he insist on only playing QB. You need a team that is set
up with his kind of offense and there aren't that many searching for a
QB. If Cousins, abd both RGs go down the 'Skins could consider Teabow.

I wouldnt disagree with most of that, but, the Skins are also strapped because of the cap penalty and another team could simply outbid them. I wouldn't say Tebow is a hot commodity that he will command a high price, but still, other teams would have more leverage in that regard than would the Skins. And yeah, the Skins style of offense would appeal to Tebow more than most other teams, but that could be offset by financial considerations.

Maybe you're right, we'll just have to wait and see what he does. My hunch is that he wants to strictly play QB, and be in the running for a starting job, but I just don't see that happening anywhere. If Jax wasnt interested, I cant imagine who would be. He would be much wiser to convert to another position and stay in the NFL, but something tells me that he'll pursue the CFL, thinking that he can showcase his talents there for a few years and then migrate back to the NFL. Again, I think it's a bad move and I dont think it will pan out for him, but my hunch is that's what he'll do. QB's are just a different breed, and once they've achieved any level of success as a QB they're reluctant to consider other positions.

Aha! Turns out someone else agrees with you regarding Tebow and the Skins. See link and snippet below:

http://www.milehighreport.com/2013/5/5/4302312/broncos-six-pack-six-landing-spots-for-tim-tebow

1. Washington Redskins

The two most prominent former Broncos still "in football" unite: Mike Shanahan and Tim Tebow.

Here's why it works: Shanahan has personnel control, so he can bring in Tebow with a specific coaching approach in mind. As coach, he wouldn't be burdened with the GM's decision to bring Tebow in; that decision would have been his.

Shanahan also has the experience and wherewithal to handle the media madness that is Tim Tebow Being On Your Team.

The Redskins have an established starting quarterback in Robert Griffin III that would not succumb to the pressures surrounding Tim Tebow Being Your Backup Quarterback. Furthermore, RGIII is popular enough where such pressures would be minimized.

Tebow would be able to operate as a backup quarterback in a system that fits his strengths. He's a natural backup to RGIII in the Redskins' read-option offense.

From my perspective, this is Tebow's best chance, and probably his most preferred. It keeps his dream of being an NFL Quarterback alive.

And since he's the free agent, he gets to operate this step in his career like he would any play on the football field: whatever option looks best to him, he takes.

My bottom line on Tebow is this...he can't throw.

I don't care how well he can run, he shouldn't be a backup QB in ANY system unless he can read a defense and deliver a well thrown pass.

I think if he doesnt seriously consider shifting to other positions then his tenure in the NFL will be shortlived. Turns out teams were interested in trading for Tebow before he was released but he turned them down because he didnt want to play another position. See Adam Shefter's comments below. Typical stubborn QB mentality where it's QB or nothing else.

"Jets had granted Tim Tebow permission this off-season to seek a trade. More than one team asked if were willing to play TE, but he was not."

On balance, the more I think about this, the Skins getting Tebow may not be such a good idea. Yeah, he's probably better on balance than Grossman so technically you improve your 3rd string QB. But when you put Tebow in the mix, then you're really creating competition for Cousins job as 2nd string QB. So you either have a disenchanted Cousins who is now relegated to 3rd string QB, or basically the same for Tebow if he ends up being third string QB. And obviously he wont be content playing H-back and special teams, plus we already have some playmakers in that realm anyway.

That's funny, because Moon won five consecutive Grey Cups (1978-1982) for
Edmonton in the six years he actually played in the CFL.

Well yes, Mr. Moon is way too old to play football.

From what we have seen so far, Cousins can run the offense far, far better then Tebow.

The only thing Tebow would do better is Read-Option runs, but they actually account for a very small number of snaps each game. BTW - I just looked at a bunch of Tebow tapes, and he makes the wrong read on read-option plays often, but he somehow breaks a tackle and makes something positive out of his mistake. I have yet to see RG3 make the wrong read.

Over half of the 'skins running plays are the same zone-stretch plays that Terrell Davis used to run, except that they often start from the pistol formation. BTW - They also run 2-3 Gibbs'-type "point of attack" runs each game. So most of the running game has little to do with the QB anyway.

In the passing game, the 'skins do a very high percentage of play-action out of one of the three running looks I just mentioned above. Tebow is okay at that, except that he still makes a lot of miss-reads, and sometimes throws wild.

When they are not running play action, the 'skins do pretty standard Bill Walsh WCO, timed, 3-step drop stuff. That's about 40% of the passing offense. Cousins does this extremely well, Tebow very, very, badly.

I really like Tebow as a person. I am impressed with his leadership, and his courage to profess his faith even when he knows it will rain criticism and hatred on himself. That has nothing to do with the fact that he does not have the ability to contribute to the Redskins on the field.

You only get to do read option runs if the defense is concerned with
your passing.

If this ever actually happened, Shanahan would either be lying or
senile.

Cousins is a much better QB than Tebow, which is why he's on an NFL
roster and Tebow is not. Teblow is a fucking joke and only rubes like
you are still believers.

If Cousins were cut how many teams would pass him by. IIUC, the wurst
(Those that get comment like "I never sausage a mess.") teams get
priority.

Have the Jest cut Sanchez yet?
