Joe Theismann has said repeatedly in recent weeks that he believes
Robert Griffin III will be ready for Week 1.

On Tuesday, the former Redskins great took it a step further:
Theismann said he also believes RG3 could be a more “refined”
quarterback when he returns.

“Unbelievable,” Theismann said on NFL Network’s ‘NFL AM’ show, asked
how Griffin looked at Redskins Park last week.

Griffin surprised many observers during Thursday's OTA session, which
was open to the media, by how smoothly he dropped back, planted his
foot and fired passes. He also appeared to run with relative ease,
despite a bulky brace on his right knee.

Theismann, though, was not shocked. He's been tracking Griffin's rehab
since the beginning.

“He’s 4½ months removed from the injury, and I visited him on a number
of occasions when he was down at Dr. [James] Andrews’ institute” in
Gulf Breeze, Fla., Theismann said. “I’ve watched him go through the
rehabilitation process. And watching him do all the things he had to
do [during the OTA session] and the individual drills they set up for
him, his movements, his resets, his plant, his delivery, the way the
ball comes out, it actually looks better than it did a year ago, to be
honest with you.”

Theismann added: "He’s a more refined quarterback than he was a year
ago."

Griffin, who had the ACL, LCL and meniscus in his knee repaired by
Andrews on Jan. 9, has said he hopes to receive medical clearance in
time to begin training camp with his teammates on July 25.

“Talking to him afterward, you can see the glee in his eyes, and the
gleam in his eyes," Theismann said. "He really feels like he’s on the
right path. And looking at him throw, I feel the same way.”

And Theismann's opinion is worth what? More than the denizens of this
froup, but that's a low bar or in limbo terms a high bar.

As for RGIII being more refined, likely, after going through a season,
those training camp skull sessions and no contact drills are more
meaninful. For one thing, you know the speed the NFL takes place at,
and no one who hasn't been on the field knows what NFL speed is.
Watching film is one thing, but when it's a 600 lb lineman coming at
you, that's another think.

Agree, this article didnt give me any more confidence than I had before. It's all speculation at this point. I won't even trust optimistic training camp reports in late July. Have to wait and see what he looks like in Sept.

Provided he hasn't already been seen lying prone on the field and some cart leaving it, right?

I just threw it out for discussion. Very slow now.

Joe has always been an everything is coming up roses, type of
interview. I'm more interested in # 9's opinion, closer to the season.
Sonny has forgotten more then most know now. But it was a positive
feel good read. A stark comparison to the other NFC newsgroups. I
really don't think RG will be out there, the first week.

And Sam Huff has forgotten more than Sonny. Which doesn't make him an
expert, per se.

All I know is....

He looks thicker. Pecs, Bis, Tris, Traps, quads, all bigger.

He doesn't appear to have any loss of flexibility.

His throwing motion looks perfect. He has no problem pushing off. Of course, his bad knee is the other one.

He ran smoothly. No cuts, just rolling out.

All that means is that he can play flag football with no rush today. I have no idea if he'll be able to practice by camp, or play by game 1.

The decline of Sam is sad. I enjoyed listening to him over the years.
But the last 2 have been evident, that he is not the man he was. Sonny
is still sharp, and current.

Sam is, was, a "one-trick" pony, makes mistakes all the time; he's a good foil, though, too.

Hey, there's always the name controversy to go to.

Riggins would be more entertaining. But I don't see them letting Larry
M. go. Frank was great as the middleman. I do miss him also. They seem
to want a sports reporter with the ex players. I guess kind of like
the old Cosell,Gifford team. Frank was sounding a little tired toward
the end. But I did sign the online petition, when they first released
him. It still was not time for him to go.
