Sonny, Sam, & Larry - 2/26 - On Thursday afternoon, DCRTV reported hearing more
rumblings that long-time play-by-play man Frank Herzog won't be returning to
the WJFK-FM radio booth for the upcoming Redskins' season. And now, we hear,
Channel 9/WUSA confirms it. Herzog, who is the top sports anchor for 9, will be
replaced by Westwood One/WJFK-FM sports anchor Larry Michael. Sonny Jurgenson
and Sam Huff will remain on the Skins' radio team. Channel 9 is carrying the
Redskins' pre-season games this year. We assume that Herzog will handle those.
More as we hear it.....

Frank is the voice of the Skins. He'll be missed on the broadcast. It
will make pre-season enjoyable though.

I hope this isn't true. Frank has gas left in the tank, unlike Summerall
who was mailing it in for years. Sundays won't be the same without him.

Folks, this is a sad day in DC broadcast history ... Frank Herzog is the
undisputed voice of the Washington Redskins. No one can hold a candle to
his superb play-by-play and has developed a wonderful rapport with Sam and
Sonny in the booth.

Just when Gibbs returns to bring the team back to prominence, another facet
of operations gets an unnecessary facelift ...

He was the play-by-play guy. Those guys are supposed to be on their mark,
get the calls right and set up the color guys. He did that beautifully. If
you want to get an idea of someone interesting who was a lousy PBP guy, just
hark back to the days when they let the consistently awful George Michael do
the PBP in preseason.

I don't understand WJFK. Are they that hard up for money that they have to
fire an icon? There was a chemistry there that will be hard if not impossible
to duplicate. It's the chemistry between the three of them that made the
broadcast so special. You can't buy chemistry. It seems to me you don't want
to mess with that.

I haven't lived in DC since 1974, so I ask this question with ignorance
as to WJFK ..

Are they clueless, or what?! They refuse to allow Skins fans to listen
on the net, and now they get rid of Frank.

This has got to be the most asinine thing that has ever happened in
Redskins media history, much less radio broadcasting in general.

HEY EVERYONE ... let's tell them how we feel about this. Send an e-mail
message to the Operations Director at WJFK. His name is Cameron Gray and
his e-mail address is clg...@wjfkfm.com ...

I'm not terribly bummed about Frank leaving... he was always the weak link
in the booth to me (I do love listening to Sonny and Sam, tho). But you're
right... Larry Michaels is an AWFUL choice. I've been listening to Redskins
Radio as long as I can remember, and as much as I like Jurgy and Huff, I
just don't think I'll be able to stomach Larry Michaels.

Goodbye Redskins Radio... :(

I love Frank, but I think I dislike Larry even more. They already
lost me to WTEM for the pre and post game shows...now there's no
reason to take the radio to the stadium...couldn't get a good signal
in there anyway. What a bozo move...well, now that I think about it,
they've got a bozo doing PBP now. Anyone else think hate that Rob
Spewak (sp?) as the on-field pre-game announcer? That's annoyed me
for the past two seasons to no end. What joke....WJFK is filling my
Redskins experience with idiots...When's their contract up????
