Quite a shock-Steve was well known here in New England, played for New
Orleans for 5 years, and also was briefly a Patriot, though never on the
field.

BC football standout Steve Trapilo, 39, dead
By Herald wire services
Sunday, May 23, 2004

Boston College Hall of Famer Steve Trapilo, a mainstay of BC football during
the Doug Flutie era at The Heights, died Friday night at his Norwell home of
apparent heart failure, according to family members. He was 39.

The strapping Trapilo, team captain and second-team All-American in his
senior year, was one of Flutie's chief protectors at offensive guard and
tackle for coach Jack Bicknell's teams from 1982-86.

Trapilo went to four bowl games in his five-year college career,
capping a 9-3 senior season with a Hall of Fame Bowl win over Georgia. He
was a starting guard on the victorious Cotton Bowl team as a sophomore, the
only underclassmen to start on the line, and won the Eagle of the Year Award
as a senior. Trapilo also provided a key block for Flutie in the famed
``Miracle in Miami'' Hail Mary pass in 1984.

The Milton native played for the New Orleans Saints in the NFL from
1987-92, earning All-Rookie honors in his first season. Trapilo signed with
the Patriots in 1993 but never played for the team, with a knee injuring
forcing him to retire. Trapilo owned and managed five health and fitness
clubs in the Norwell area in his post-playing career. He was also a big
supporter of the BC High football program, donating equipment for a weight
room and serving as an assistant coach at the school.

Trapilo is survived by his wife, Kimberly; twin daughters, Jordyn and
Devyn, 5; and son, Ozzy-Dean, 3. A wake will be held at Dolan Funeral Home
in Milton at a time to be determined by the family.

I remember him from his BC days, mostly. I hear it was congestive.
My thoughts and prayers to Steve's family and friends.

That's really sad, Craig. I remember Trapilo. That's very young to be
dying from heart failure.
