Want to bet on that, Einstein? He'll get a good contract because he
earned it. He'll probably take less money free up some room for other
player contracts. He's that kind of guy.

Oh, so it's called taking a chance? Well, you don't think Harbaugh
took a chance? The results are proof enough that taking a chance
works, but then Smith was already in the offense and Harbaugh fed them
the new offense slowly. Damn, some other coach did the same thing
with his team and things turned out pretty good.
You stand pat with mediocre comments, Smith will just keep improving.
You see, when you get so fixated with old history, you never see what
the future has to offer. Stick with what you like, 13-3 and a playoff
tell me a lot more than a sorry old refrain about mediocrity.
Harbaugh saw something in Smith that you missed. Smith was ready to
leave, that's fact. Harbaugh talked him into staying because Harbaugh
(a former NFL QB) realized that there was more to Smith than 6 seasons
of poor performance showed.
Smith stood toe to toe with Brees and beat him. Brees got 4 TD's,
Smith got 4. Now the so-called mediocre Smith could have never done
that. No, he'd have imploded, just a like a lot of doubters expected.
Remember how a mediocre Smith could never throw on timing? What did
he do on the pass to Davis? That ball was out and on the way before
Davis broke towards the endzone. Well, that must have been another QB
out there, right?
Ever seen Smith laughing as he ran for a TD? Ever seen our mild
mannered milk toast bark out replies to the other team on his way back
from that TD, or the final TD? No, he'll never change, oh no.
Not bad for a team or a QB that hadn't played in the offense before,
the seventh straight for Smith and the team. 13-3 ... not bad at all,
but it could have been better. Will be better, especially with some
experience.
If the Niners take history to heart, they'll upgrade the offense with
some bigger, faster receivers and that alone should make a significant
difference. They might draft higher than Walsh did, but either way,
they should give Smith more weapons to work with.
Plenty of work for Smith to do on his game, but at least he'll make
the effort. How many fans would take Flynn over Smith after a 13-3
season and a playoff win?
