Acee’s got Chargers going all the way

Chargers beat writer Kevin Acee predicted before the season that the
Chargers would beat the Minnesota Vikings in the Super Bowl. So, for all
his lousy prognostications, he’s still alive there. Of course, the last
time two No. 2 seeds met in the Super Bowl was … never. But in his
never-ending quest to say “I told you so,” he is sticking with the
Chargers-Vikings matchup in Miami. And this is how he thinks it will happen:
AFC
WILD CARD
N.Y. Jets at Cincinnati: Indianapolis gets what it wanted, perhaps, when
it opened the door into the playoffs for the Jets. This prediction isn’t
based on what happened Sunday. It’s based on the Jets’ stunning defense.
Pick: Jets
Baltimore at New England: It’s going to be a 2006 redux for the
Chargers, as the Patriots struggle but beat the Ravens again to earn
another trip to San Diego.
Pick: Patriots
DIVISIONAL
N.Y. Jets at Indianapolis: Mark Sanchez’s rookie year ends in a loud
dome, as the greatest quarterback ever does just enough to edge the
league’s top D.
Pick: Colts
New England at Chargers: Just like ’06, the Patriots don’t match up with
the Chargers. But this time, the Chargers are ready and handle the
situation.
Pick: Chargers
CHAMPIONSHIP
Chargers at Indianapolis: There is no fear, and the Chargers have won
here before. Defensive injuries have caught up to the Colts. But the
Chargers better find a way to pressure Peyton Manning.
Pick: Chargers

WILD CARD
Philadelphia at Dallas: The Cowboys are hot. No one has gained more
yards or allowed fewer points than the Cowboys over the past three games
(since the Chargers beat them). And the Eagles were overrated. Pick: Cowboys
Green Bay at Arizona: The Cardinals self-destruct — or the league’s best
team protecting the ball and taking it away just makes it seem that way.
Pick: Packers
DIVISIONAL
Dallas at Minnesota: Jared Allen gets to Tony Romo three times, the same
number of times Brett Favre throws a touchdown pass.
Pick: Vikings
Green Bay at New Orleans: The Packers turn Drew Brees into a turnover
machine, and the Packers carefully pull out one to again to set up the
best matchup there could be.
Pick: Packers
CHAMPIONSHIP
Green Bay at Minnesota: Brett Favre vs. his old team and former protégé
to go to the Super Bowl. The Vikings, at home, beat the Pack for the
third time.
Pick: Vikings
SUPER BOWL
Chargers vs. Minnesota: Philip Rivers, the new Favre (meant as a
compliment), begins in earnest his legacy as a leader and a winner. But
Shaun Phillips, who forces two Adrian Peterson fumbles in the red zone,
shares MVP honors with Vincent Jackson, who has seven receptions for 137
yards. When asked where they’re going after winning the Super Bowl, they
both say, “Not to the Pro Bowl.”
