Observations

the teams performance and would like to start a rational discourse.
First, the offensive line's run blocking was stellar. They were like
road graders out there just leveling the way for LT/MT. Fonoti in
particular looked great and on MT's touchdown run he just blasted a hole
on the entire left side. He and Oben are going to give opposing defenses
fits all season. The right side was also good and Olivea is proving to
be one of the biggest steals of last season's draft. Hardwick is also
playing well and is also making a case for being a steal last year too.
It will be interesting to see how the depth shakes out as Van Buren in
listed third on the depth chart (surprised me) once the roster cuts start.
Second, Drew is throwing the ball as well as anyone ever has. His passes
have some real zing to them, are nice tight spirals and always seem to
be placed right where he wants them. The Rams secondary had to make
several outstanding plays yesterday otherwise the score would have been
even more lopsided than it was. McCardell was solid, Reche Caldwell
looked like he's back from his injury and Eric Parker should be a great
WR3. Kassim Osgood continues to impress me with solid play, great body
control and using that big frame of his to gain position on the ball and
shield the defender off of the play. Once Gates is back on the field the
passing game should be awesome.
Third, LT was unbelievable. On his 55 yard touchdown he looked like he
was shopping for groceries. He seemed to be running effortlessly and the
move he put on Adam Archeletta was priceless. He is in top form and
could very well challenge for Eric Dickerson's single season rushing
record of 2105 yards. There is no other back in football who that can be
said of at this point. He also made a great one handed grab on a screen
pass showing his hands are as soft as ever. MT looked good too with a 55
yard gain of his own and Darren Sproles showed he's the real deal. On on
return Sproles made like six Rams miss even though he only got a short
gain. His sweep over the left side to get down to the 6 yard line just
after MT's 55 yard jaunt was very impressive. We look like we're stacked
at RB.
Fourth, the defense was outstanding. Until they let up towards the end
of the first half they dominated the Rams offense. The second stringers
played just as well against their second unit too. Foley had a monster
game, Godfrey looked like he could play for another five years but it
was troubling to see Donnie Edwards get hurt (hope its minor). The only
concern was Terrance Keil. he looked out of place on several plays but
its still very early. The secondary played very well and accounted for a
couple of sacks just by blanketing the Rams receivers. Bulger looked
like he was mystified on several plays and a couple of his throws landed
5 yards or more from a receiver.
Lastly, Nate Kaeding finally hit on a field goal! He looked great and
his confidence is restored if nothing else. His kickoffs were terrific
except for the opening kickoff) and his hangtimes gave to coverage ample
time to get down the field and make plays. Sci-fi is not doing anything
to make us worry so the kicking game should be there. I was very glad to
see Kaeding make those kicks and it looks like I was wrong about needing
to bring in another kicker (its very good to be wrong!).
All in all it was a very good performance. If this had been a real game
I think we would have won by 21 or better.

I'm sorry... But, if Toniu came in like that! He'd be laughed right off
the team. :)
But, I do know what you're saying. As long as ?whomever? does sign w/ us
(nstead of bailing) and are in playing shape, what does it really when
they do it? Hell, the ONLY thing I don't like about this whole
Gates-gate thing is. It all could have been settled last year. But...
?whatever? ...he's here, and that's all that matters. </shrug>
The one very positive about this, though. Justin got (is getting) a lot
of reps w/ the 1st Team, and not just as TE2 in Double TE sets. Again...
?whatever? ...because he really didn't show much on Sunday. </shrug,
again> :)
