Ryan Mathews misses second practice in a row

Chargers starters Ryan Mathews (neck) and Jared Gaither (groin) have
missed both practices this week.

Neither player is taking mental reps in the early part of Thursday's
practice.

Nosetackle Aubrayo Franklin (knee) hasn't practiced, either. It's
expected he will become the defense's first starter to miss a game with
injury.

Antwan Barnes is practicing for the first time since suffering a
hamstring injury. The backup linebacker was inactive against the Bucs
last Sunday.

Vincent Brown is running and doing agility work on a side field. The
wide receiver was pleased with Wednesday's workout, the most running he
said he'd done yet in his comeback from the broken ankle suffered on
Aug. 18.

According to the Denver Post, Broncos end Elvis Dumervil (shoulder)
didn't practice on Thursday. Dumervil has seven sacks, second-most on
the team.

The Chargers (4-5) and Broncos (6-3) will play Sunday afternoon in Denver.
