Well, there may not be, anyway. I am leaving town again on Thursday to stay
with my Mom for a few days and visit my Dad in the hospital. I don't know if
I will be able to post to the NG. In the past, my ISP's (Charter) news
server hasn't let me post when I'm connecting from an address that's not on
the Charter network. (Actually, it asks for a user name and password, but I
don't have one for news, because posting from home doesn't require one. I
called tech support, and the rep I talked with had never had anyone ask her
that question.) Posting through Google Groups requires a real e-mail
address, and I don't have a throw-away address to use.

My Dad was doing real well for a couple of weeks, and the family thought he
had turned the corner, or might have. Then, a week ago, he had a setback,
and the doctors haven't been able to get him out of it. Today, for the first
time, the doctors told my Mom that Dad may well not make it.

As for the nurse, she hasn't called. Maybe I'll run into her at the
hospital. Maybe I imagined the whole thing. It's been disappointing and
confusing. I really thought I might have had some good luck for a change in
that department...

Anyway, I have too much to do and I need to get ready to leave. I won't even
be able to watch the Chargers this weekend. My parents live in New Jersey
near Philadelphia, and that area (like almost the whole country) gets the
Cowboys game.

For the final insult, the Chargers' game is on DirecTV channel 714 this
weekend, and I can't even program my Tivo to record it because, for some
unknown reason, my DirecTV system at home has lost channel. I mean, it's
just not there. The channels go from 713 to 715. I called DirecTV technical
support, and they say there's no problem with the channel.

If my Dad is dying, I may not be back for a while, as I will want to stay
with my Mom, if I can do my work from there, till that process ends. So, even
if I can record the game, I may not be back to see it. Everything is
suddenly very much up in the air.

So, overall, things are kind of fucked. Maybe there will be a miracle.

Hope you have better luck than mine. I'm going to be out town this weekend
too - my grandmother died yesterday.

<sigh>

I still intend to see the Charger game though.

Priorites have to be maintained. And she'd understand - she knew I loved
the Chargers more than her anyway...

<weak grin>

Seriously, I just went through what you're going through. And my
grandmother lingered in the hospital for months before finally getting well
enough to go home - and died of a massive coronary last night. In her own
home on her own feet. Just like she wanted.

I am sure I speak for all in sending our wishes, prayers, and/or hopes
to you and yours, Dear Friend. My Dad died last November after living
here with us for a long time, so I have recently visited that
territory. No matter how it goes in any area may you come away at
peace, contented that it ended as it should have.

Sorry to hear that, you'll be missed! FYI, Direct TV usually doesn't
list the NFL Ticket channels until 12-24hr's before kickoff, so if you
know what channel it is you might still be able to tivo it. Good luck!

My heart and prayers go out to you, your dad, your mom and the rest of
your family. Miracles do happen, unfortunately sometimes they are in
forms that we don't quite agree w/ or understand. Just know this. If
your pop does depart this plane of existence, just remember that he will
always be w/ you & your family and in stronger form. Our Spirit Beings
need to be released to achieve their full potential, this Earthly vessel
only weighs the Spirit down. I now it's hard to act this way in the wake
of a death, especially to a parent, but be happy for him. If he leaves
you & your mom he will no longer suffer and feel pain. That's great for
him. Be happy in that knowledge and rejoice, for someday you will be
reunited w/ him when all is said & done.

With that said. I hope hat he is only suffering a minor setback only to
come out of it stronger and the three of you together get to see the
Glory of the Lord returning to wipe away the final tears. Much love.

GO BOLTS!!!

Robin, let me add my best wishes for you & your family. Situations like
this really do make us realize how unimportant sports is, although if the
games can provide a distraction & allow us to "decompress" a bit, they are
of some value.

FWIW, you can throw together a Google account pretty easy if that's all
that's keeping you from using Google Groups to keep tabs on us. Their ng
service is not as nifty as OE (IMO) but it's better than nothing & I'm sure
we'd all like to keep hearing from you & offer whatever support we can.

Go Bolts !

Best wishes for you and your family, we'll all be pulling for a
miracle.

Michael

p.s. Not that it's very important in the whole scheme of things, but
isn't
the Charger game going to be on the local FOX affiliate as the back
end
of the doubleheader? Maybe you can TiVo the game that way.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Michael, the Cowboys game is the late game almost everywhere in the country,
including where I am now (Birmingham) and where I will be this weekend
(Philadelphia area).

The red areas on the map get Dallas at Cleveland. That's the entire country,
other than the local markets for the two other teams...

I have a Google Groups account. I can access the NGs. But, to post through
GG, you need a real e-mail address. I've just never set up a throw-away
address with one of the free services that I could use. I might be able to
set something up...

says...

All the best with your family situation, Robin.

As for the game, if you don't mind waiting for it and know how to use
bittorrent then you should be able to download it from this website late
Sunday or Monday. I think registration is still open and free but let
me know if you have trouble and I can walk you through it.

I use hotmail but yahoo or any web mail works. You can set one up
in a minute. Hardest thing was finding an unused mail address
that I can remember.

Best wishes and good luck with your dad.

You're probably already gone by now Robin, but I just wanted to let
you know that my best wishes are with you and your Father. Good luck
to both of you.
