LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man was in court Monday morning,
charged with attempted murder after a 3-year-old boy died from a severe
beating.
Shively police responded to an apartment complex on Crums Lane Sunday
afternoon on a report of an unresponsive 3-year-old boy.
According to the arrest report, the child was found "not breathing, with
fluids coming from facial orifices."
Police also say responders noticed contusions on the chest of the child
and throughout his body that were "not consistent with CPR, but were
likely the result of trauma."
The boy was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital and was revived, but
later died from his injuries.
Investigators arrested 36-year-old Larry Webster a short time later.
He was reportedly watching the boy, who is the son of his girlfriend.
Police say the boy's mother told them that when she left home at 7:30
a.m., the child was fine.
"Witnesses and family members stated that they had suspected that the
suspect had been physically abusing the victim in the past," police say.
An autopsy report is still pending.
Webster was arrested for the attempted murder charge before the boy died.
A spotted past...
It's not the first time Webster has been accused of domestic violence,
according to court documents. WDRB News has uncovered a domestic
violence order from 2001, in which Webster was accused of threatening
his then-girlfriend and his 1-year-old child.
That incident involved a different woman and a different child.
According to that domestic violence order, Webster was waiting at the
woman's apartment in Dec. 2001 when she came home. She let him in and he
used the restroom, then she left. While she was gone, Webster allegedly
went on a rampage in the apartment. Authorities say he, "busted a glass
coffee table, broke glass picture frames and ripped up the picture of
the child."
He also allegedly destroyed the Christmas tree and tore up clothes.
He had threatened to kill the woman and the child in the past, according
to the documents, and the woman feared for their lives.
Authorities say the two argued over child support payments.
Webster was arraigned in court this morning and pleaded not guilty. He
is currently being held on a $1 million bond.
