It was a bad game but the problem is that Tobin isn't responsible for all
the crap that happened before he arrived, yet he's being held responsible
because people constantly beat it into this team. Case in point last
night, they rally to close the score to 24-10, TNT comes back from
commercial, shows the Eddie George run in the Houston game, and Pat Haden
for no apparent reason compares it to the 76 yard run Steve Bono had
against the Cards last year. Why? George didn't score on his run, he's not
a QB, it had no relevance other than for Haden to take a shot at the
Cards. Had it been in the first half when we played so poorly I'd have
understood, but it came after 10 points had made the game potentially
interesting, it was a cheap shot.
Don't judge a team by it's worst performance, last week Dallas was out of
the playoffs, now they're back, last year Carolina beat the 49ers and
humiliated them, San Francisco recovered.
This was a bad game, but Tobin says Boomer is still his starter, so is
McElroy(who didn't deserve to get pulled, what he does on kickoffs
shouldn't impact his status at RB), Vince apparently has decided that
Brent Alexander can't play RCB etc. In the Bay Area the Raiders have James
Trapp who has been the subject of trade rumors ever since they signed
Larry Brown(making Trapp the #4 CB), I'd like to see the Cards offer a 3rd
round pick for Trapp. he's a hothead and makes some boneheaded penalties,
but he's one of the 4-5 fastest players in the NFL and he's a great
talent.
I think Graham answered my questions, yes he has a strong arm, but once
Miami stopped messing around they thoroughly confused him, he threw 2
picks and they dropped another one that would have been a TD for Sean
Hill. Boomer's the starter for now but at some point it's going to be
Stoney Case's chance to play.
What do other people think about Larry Centers? I've said this before, I
really wonder if he'd be anything but a 3rd down back if we were a good
team, he's not a true FB, seemed like every tackle Zack Thomas made was
after Centers missed the block, he's not a true TB, but he's a phenomenal
pass catcher and he plays so damn hard you have to love him. Tobin says he
wants to lock him up longterm contract wise, I think it might be a
mistake. Unless you make him your tailback, I think it's going to be hard
to run with him playing FB, I really wonder what his trade value would be?
Could you get a #1 from a team looking for a 3rd down back, or would he
only bring a 2nd or 3rd rounder? I love to watch him play, I just don't
think a team where he's the best offensive player, will ever win.
