Just when I thought I had it figured out, things take another ironic turn...

Rex wants out unless Mr. Johnson is willing to spend the money needed to fix the offense...

What the hell ??? It looked to me that it was Rex that destroyed the offensive roster with his influence over the direction the team took in their building process.

Get a load of this ???

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/ax-jets-fail-offense-article-1.1228741

"NY Jets coach Rex Ryan would welcome firing if Gang Green fails to make over offense"

"Ryan declined comment about his future when reached by The News. “If Woody’s not willing to do what it takes to fix the team, then (Ryan) knows he’s better off being fired,” a team source said. “If Woody is willing to eat some money and spend to get us out of this mess, then it’s worth staying.”"

****************

OK... What the fuck is going on here ??? If it was Ryan that neglected the offense to begin with, now he wants Mr. Johnson to bail him out ???

Or was I wrong in ASSuming that it was Rex that blew the offensive roster out his ass ??? Is it possible that Rex did not screw the offense up ??? Was it Tanny ???

OR... Is Rex just asking to be fired because he wants out ???

Whatever the answers to your questions are, this is a great thing if true. The offense must be drastically improved. So whatever it takes.

Easier said than done tho, considering the dearth of offensive talent. Including at the most critical position -- QB.

Yeah, but if this is Ryan's way of making sure they let him go while at the same time, hinting to the world "hey, the offense was not my fault"

Well... This may very well a bad thing... This does not ensure the offense will get fixed... It only ensures that the defense will get worse...

I really think this is Ryan's way of getting the hell out of town without any egg on his face... Setting himself up nice and clean with a new gig for next season...

As you yourself suggest, this blows your idea out of the water. Care
to make any more sure predictions, swami? Even you now have to admit
that he's a pretender as a HC.

Really, the WHOLE thing has to be blown up. Now. We'll wait. After
all, we've been waiting for 44 years so far. What difference will a few
more make as long as they get it right.

BTW, I think now, with the concussion issue out in the open, that
McElroy is out of the picture for good as the QB for the NY Jets. Add
in Mac's commentary on the disfunctionality of last years' locker room
and one doesn't have to be Nostradamus to see the writing on the wall.

Buffalo 35- 10.

Lets see him wipe the shit off his face then.

Look, I don't for one minute think it was Rex's idea to search for Tebow,
get rid of the guy they had already signed and bring in a guy they had no
plan for. So...if that is the case, I'd have to figure that the owner is
sticking his fingers in a lot of things. If you will recall the HBO Hard
Knocks episode when Clowney was screwing up in practice and Woody was out
there watching...he kept telling Westhoff and anyone who would listen how
much he liked this guy and how fast he was and indicating they should work
with him. I never assumed it was Rex at all, quite the opposite, I only
figured he had an ego big enough he said he'd make something out of what he
was given and probably never figured it would get this bad. I also do not
think Tanny, who is NOT a football guy, was dumb enough to execute a
strategy of musical wide receivers and mess any development of a young and
bad QB up. He is not that dumb, a casual observer of the game does not do
that. BUT...and huge ego driven owner who sees a new toy may do something
like that...think Plaxico. Of course none of this is anything but
guessing...what else can any of us do with the mess they have put out
there...none of it makes any football sense. Now...I'd say Rex is looking
for a way out big time, you don't criticize the owner and not expect to get
shown the door.

I'm not at all sure what this all means... Once again, I'm playing "guess the mess" as I have been doing all along...

We'll have to wait and see what else shakes out in the coming weeks...

This is all very odd...

And now... Rex denis the report

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/rex-mad-hornet-report-article-1.1228926

"Rex Ryan flashed some of his old, fiery self Friday when he denied a Daily News report that he had intimated he would be better off getting fired at the end of the season if Jets owner Woody Johnson would not commit to investing in the offense.

Ryan said he was "disappointed" and "mad as a hornet" upon reading the story. The coach said he immediately called Johnson to communicate that he did not want to be fired."

I see this as nothing more than the press taking it's "Jets feeding your
stories" over the top. What? there haven't been ant Tebow/Sanchez/Rex
stories in over two days? Make one up!

What money? They're already $20 million over the cap for next year.
Is Rex demanding that Woody change the salary cap rules?

Woody spent the money to fix the offense next year when he let them
talk him into extending Sanchez's contract -- as one of the top-paid
QBs in the league.

>What the hell ??? It looked to me that it was Rex that destroyed the offensive roster

It wasn't Schott's fault! :-)

I remember asking, if Rex had so much controll over the offensive
personnel, then e.g., how come he was so public about how he didn't
want to draft Hill, didn't see how Hill could help, but Tanny and the
FO made that call?

If you answered that I didn't see it. How is that circle squared?

(BTW, Rex's judgment about O personnel doesn't look so bad there.)

"I would welcome you paying me two full years of salary for nothing --
just to go away! -- if *you* don't improve this team I presided over
building for you."

Hey, I bet he would welcome that!

I'd welcome that! Pay me two full years salary to go away, and spend
that money happily elsewhere, if you don't do what it takes to make
my job easier and more fun here!

What's not to welcome? :-)

In that sense, I don't doubt this story is technically true.

But in any meaningful sense, this sure bears al the traits of another
"I have column inches to fill to get paid and nothing but a bullshit
'sources say story' to write". ("Peyton Manning will never play
again", sources say.)

Mmm... could be.

>Is it possible that Rex did not screw the offense up ??? Was it Tanny ???

Who is the team's shrewd contract-managing capoligist? Who extended
Sanchez's contact? Is that not Tanny? I believe it is.

But then, Rex as HC certainly ran the O in practice, was in charge of
developing new young O players ('cough, choke'), and made the
strategic decisions (invest all pre-season camp changing from Ground
and Pound to Air and Dare, then after four games "Ooops, that didn't
work, quick! this week back to Ground and Pound, ooops again"), while
not knowing the O run-pass ratio in key games ("Schott, that's *your*
fault") ... so I wouldn't say his hands are clean.

IOW, it's just not the simplistic "it all one person's fault" scenario
you keep deducing -- first Schott, then Rex, then Tanny...

From the record of the decline of all parts of this offense in every
way over the last four years, there's *plenty* of responsibility to
share over *a lot* of people.

"It's all one person's fault" scenarios are wishful thinking. Then
just change that one person and everything's fine! Happy days are
back again!

No such luck.

If only...

I get what you're saying, but it's worth pointing out that if nyjetscap is correct, they'll only be $8M over the cap if we assume that the team isn't willing to make Jason Smith one of the highest paid OTs in football. :)

Capologist does not mean talentologist... Who told Tanny to extend Sanchez and why ???

Three people are not A LOT of people... It all boils down to Woody and or Tanny and or Rex.

Wrong...

It all comes down from the owner... You have a good roster and coaching staff if you have a good GM... If you have a good owner, you have a good GM...

What seems to be common to most of your reasoning... You complicate the obvious and trivialize the momentous.

Whoa Nellie! Are you actually, NOW and at long last, saying that Woody
is NOT a good owner?

Next you'll be telling us that Moon isn't made of green cheese.

woody is not an ideal owner... he has two things in his favor... although he makes mistakes, he is also a reactive owner... he makes changes regularly when things dont work out... remember, rooney stuck with spittle face for fourteen years... that is how long it took him to win a superbowl. if rex does not improve the team's record next year, he'll be gone.

woody will bumble, but he'll keep making changes until he learns or bumbles in the right direction...

any jet fan that does not want rex as a HC is foolish and ignorant IMHO. He is the best they had in a long time...

Lets see What Woody does for the team in this coming off season as far as new GM...
