Watching for Tom Moore...

offense, but I'll be looking for his influence in two places. The
first place I'll be looking should be apparent even in the preseason.
The second thing I'll be looking for probably wont materialize until
the regular season starts as they wont be showing their hand. First
off, I'll be looking for some sanity in the running game. After
Faneca left the team, the Jets still had the same right handed running
play book. Many of the running plays called for LG Slauson to make it
to a blocking assignment over on the right side of the line. He was
often late to make his assignment. If there is now five cents worth
of brains involved in the Jets offense, we should see less of that and
more of the Jets running power up between Slauson and Mangold and
Slauson and Brick. Slauson is a mauler and not twinkle toes. I'd
like to see the Jets running play book match the manpower. I'd gather
we wont see much running outside the tackles as neithe Brick or Hunter
are great run blockers. The Jets passing game should be designed to
back off the defense and leave the gut volnurable for the smash mouth
running attack that Slauson, Mangold and Moore are best suited to.
The second thing I'll be looking for, and we probably wont get a good
dose if it will be the continuity of the offense. Do they
intelligently build drives or is it still a shoe box offense ??? If we
see the Jets start running up the gut more on the left side of the
line along with offensive continuity, I'll be very pleased as it can
only mean there is some real brain power at work.
Two "honorable" mention things to look for once the season get started
is how they use Keller. If he starts looking like Dallas Clark, we
know who's at work.
Then there is Sanchez... A Tom Moore offense is all about timing and
execution. Not so much sophistication. This should be good for
Sanchez... Less thinking about what to do and more execution of a set
play. He's been a good "school yard" qb, but focusing on perfect
execution of a set play may be exactly the lesson he needs to take a
step up.

You think much of anything can be apparent in preseason?
I'm always skeptical about how much I can gather from preseason. One
thing I look for most, are rookies and young players trying to prove
themselves. Preseason phenoms usually don't translate in to career
success, but seeing youngsters flash can be an indicator they have a
chance.

We wont see the full play book at work, but we'll see them test the
execution of basics. If they plan to run power-up in the left *a* and
*b* gaps during the regular season, no doubt they will try it in the
pre-season. I'm gonna be watching closely for such plays. Also watch
for some quick shallow timing patters from Sanchez to Keller. As far
as offensive continuity and drive building... We'll have to wait until
the Dallas game to see if there is any improvment.
