Leonhard went down before the first of the last four games. The Jets
have yielded an average of 27.5 points (skewed by yesterday and NE
scores) during that span. Coincidence, or result?

It has been said Leonhard is the QB of the seconday, if not the entire
defense.

Not comparing Leonhard to Polamalu as a player, but Pittsburgh has
been average when their star safety hasn't played. Perhaps Leonhard's
absence has similarly impacted the Jets defense.

They discussed this earlier today on ESPN and they said that when
Leonhard went down the defense lost their leader and brains.

Leonard was not with the Ravens when Ray Lewis went down for 5-6 weeks
several seasons ago. Bart Scott had been tutored by Lewis (not the fat ass)
and took over the Ravens defense. Scott did an admirable job and the Ravens
D didn't miss a beat.

Rex took Scott with him for that very reason and as it turns out Leonard has
become the heart, soul and "brains" of his defense! That just further
reaffirms my ever increasing low opinion of Rex Ryan, ...well that and this
weekends mugging of his vaunted jets D by the teddy-bears .

those on field pre-snap adjustments are huge.

A lot of folks here were unhappy with Leonhard's coverage skills, but that
was not really his primary job. What he did do was hit really hard, and
make some great tackles...in addition he kept everybody on task and doing
what they were supposed to do in terms of allignment and assignment...the
two keys to any good defense, if you don't get those right, nothing much
good happens after the snap. He also was very good at over coverage with
the corners or what I always learned as "sky and clouds....safety or corner
support"....he did it and made a lot of what the others did work better...he
is a huge loss IMHO. Papa Carl
