A REAL Power Rankings

Operative word being "power." Not which team: is highest scoring/
passing, highest-rated QB, added the biggest free agent names, flavor
of the month, etc.

I'm talking about real power rankings, based on what I call an
"overall toughness rating."

It means while possessing an excellent offense is critical other
factors are key: passing offense/defense overall ratio, proven playoff-
winning head coach, a winning program, a solid aggressive defense
which can defend the pass, a team wide tough-minded mentality, esprit
de corps, proven playoff success, solid special teams. For starters.

All these things lead to an "overall toughness rating." An overall
ruggedness, hard to defeat factor.

So, the top 10:

1. Jets (forever and always - enough said)
2. Green Bay (Rodgers gets a lot of hype, but that defense -
particularly vs. the pass - is nasty. Look how it handled Philly &
Atlanta and shut down Chicago in the playoffs, and the number it did
on the Jets and others in the regular season).
3. Pittsburgh (obvious reasons).
4. Indy (neck injury shmeck injury).
5. New Orleans (deceptively tough, deceptive good defense, perhaps
the best QB in the game other than Sanchez)
6. Baltimore (this is a dangerous outfit).
7. New England (if their offseason additions pan out they could be
dangerous).
8. Atlanta (if Julio Jones & Edwards pan out they have a shot at
challenging GB & NO).
9. Philly (more bark than bite with Vick as their QB. As I heard
someone say he looks good on TV).
10. New York Giants (I never sleep on them, esp. with Eli at the
helm. I also kinda like Coughlin).

Noticeably absent:

San Diego (one Norvell Turner above all. His name is Norvell! Further
Rivers is overrated, takes too many sacks and is prone to inopportune
turnovers).
Dallas (the AFC version of the Chargers).

And that it is all. You want some *real power* rankings refer to this
one.

Toughness doesn't win games. Points do. And the way the NFL keeps
changing the rules, it looks like toughness is quickly becoming a way
to lose games.

the colts are not a tuff team, though. they have a qb with a
competitive tuffness. without manning, the colts would be a real
dud.

also... how come you dont have detroit up there ??? their defensive
line is picture of tuffness.

and... take pittsburg off the list. we are talking about tuff teams,
not tuff officiating crews that win games for them or tuff talking
poser head coaches.

agree about the jets, though... right up there where they should be.
even pretty boy sanchez does tuff things... diving head first, gutty
come-backs and so on...
