Welker is amazing but Braylon and Santonio are not slouches either
The Pats have three solid TE and the Jets onlyone (but two really good
WR).
Our OL is as good or better. Neither D Line, except for Wilfork are
anything to write home about.
Our RB are better.
IOW, there is no reason for the Pats to dominate the Jets other than
preparation and coaching (and yes prep is part of coaching but not the
only part - just a key one in a playoff game where one mistake can cost
you a game).
Rex was right when he said it came down to him versus Bellichek.
He and his staff need to come up with game plans that negate the Brady
advantage and take advantage of our strengths.
If he really wants to bring a Lombardi to NY (and not just the show),
the road goes through NE.
And, will a gazillion picks in the draft and so many young players, if
not this year...
harlan
on defense, a large part of the weight is indeed on rex's shoulders.
he needs to keep NE guessing for four quarters. on offense for the
jets, i much more see it as a players game and not a coaches game.
they need to execute on offense. that means sanchez and the wr's.
accurate balls and no dropped passes due to lack of concentration.
I mostly agree, perhaps completely.
Gazillion draft picks - who cares. It's about drafting quality, not
how many picks you have. What's more the draft is a bit of wild card,
too many picks don't pan out.
Further the draft is just one way to construct a winning team (tho the
most critical). Gotta be adept in all phases: draft, free agency,
trades.
There RB's are used better and whoever comes in does so with a set and
scheme attuned to their abilities etc. I just think they have a better run
scheme...and that is probably enhanced because of their passing game...what
I like is they set up runs so well that they don't need to "star" RB's.
The Pats have a better team because of Brady; take him out of the
equation and they're maybe 8-8. If the Jets can pressure Brady, and
run the ball and control the clock, they'll win on Sunday. The Giants
beat the best Pats team ever and they certainly weren't supposed to
win. And they scored just enough points to pull it out. It wasn't
classy, but it was effective, and the Giants D kicked the shit out of
Brady. The Jets need to do the same.
:-) Alas...the Giants had one of the best pass rushing units the game has
ever seen...the Jets have almost NO rush, I wish it weren't so, but it is.

Two years ago the Patriots went 11-5 with a QB that hadn't started
since High School.

On any given Sunday.
But I don't think this year's Pats are as susceptible to a big rush.
Brady to Moss takes time to develop. Brady to one of 5 choices plus a
good running game is a lot harder to defend.
FWIW Football Outsiders ranks this year's Patriots as a better team
than the 2007 Patriots.

Everybody chasing Belichick and his gazillion draft picks.

Which is exactly why you want to have a lot of picks -- instead of
packaging them off to trade up to get Lam Jones, Dewayne Robertson, or
the next Gholston. Or to get a free agent you'll lose after one
year.

You want to be the best at everything, of course.
But free agents are never a bargain, they always cost top dollar.
Draft picks are always a salary cap bargain. The more drafted players
you have the more good players you can have.
Forget the Pats. The Steelers are a good team year in, year out.
When was the last time you remember them going on a big-dollar FA
signing binge? The do it with draft picks and undrafted FAs they
develop themselves.

Vegas had the Pats as a 12-win team with Brady, Brady went down, they
replaced him with a guy who hadn't started a game since *high school*,
and they won 11. Football is a *team* game. The Pats are a *superior
team*.
Can the Jets beat them? Sure. They are .500 against them this year.
But they have to beat the Pats, not Brady. And be happy about that.
If football was just QB v QB it would be Sanchez v Brady and we'd be
dead already.

The Gints D front 4 beat the hell out of Brady all by themselves while
the other 7 guys dropped back in coverage.
Yes, the Jets need to do the same. If you can figure out how they can
do it with the D-line they've got, instead of the D-line the Gints
had...
Otherwise, it's off to Plan B.

And even then it took a helmet catch and a dropped INT by Samuels.

The Jets need 200+ yards rushing. It could happen, the Pats are very
very thin on the defensive line.
Switch coaches, now which team is favored? Still the Pats. Switch QB's,
now which team is favored? It's all about Brady. He's a 10, Sanchez is a 4.
--
Your rb's are not better. Ellis has 13 rushing td's, Tomlinson has 6.
Ellis and Woodhead have 18 rushing td's, Tomlinson, Sanchez and Greene have 11.
The Jets rush for an avg of 148.4 yds/game, the Pats
123 yds/gm. But the Pats only make 28.4 rush attempts
per game versus the Jets 33.4 attempts per game. That
means the Pats gain 4.33 yds/att while the Jets gain
4.44 yds per attempt, almost the same. If the Pats made
as many attempts as the Jets, they'd rush for 144.6 yds
per game, almost the same. But the Pats don't have
to rush as much because their passing game is so good.
Pats
BJGE has 13 rush td
Woodhead 5 rush td, 1 rcv not with the team whole year
Gronk has 10 rcv td
Welker 7
Hernandez 6
Branch 5 not with the team whole year
Tate 3
Crumpler 2
Jets
Tomlinson 6 rush td
Sanchez 3 rush td
Greene 2 Rush td
Edwards 7 rcv td
Holmes 6
Keller 5
Cotchery 2
Leaving out the guys on both sides with
just 1.
So please stop telling us how great Edwards and Holmes are. The
Pats rookie TE has 3 more than the best one.
> IOW, there is no reason for the Pats to dominate the Jets other than

Well, the Jets defense has been the strength, not the offense, but
in the lasts 4 games, the Pats have averaged 34.8 pts/gm on offense,
11 on defense, while the Jets are averaging about 20.5 pts game
on offense, 19.5 on defense. So the Pats *should* dominate, but
as you know, "any given Sunday...."
I wish you were the Pats GM if you think the Pats RB are in the same
league as Shonn and LT.
Performance is based on team ability and coaching. I was talking about
talent. If you were impressed with what Woodhead did for you guys, you
would be in nirvanha if you had the Jets two backs without having to
accept Shott.
harlan
But the Pats have Shott going for them.

And YOU would find Nirvana if you had a QB like Brady. You don't. You
lose.
