to give up on them now.

I've been following this team since 1970 so I've been to hell and
back. I'm going nowhere and I've got another PSL payment left to make
by March 1st. But do I think the 2009 Giant season is just about in
the tank? Yes. If they lose next Sunday against Dallas it will be
over.

To clarify, I am not abandoning my team, I will still be cheering for
them until the end of their season. I just don't think we will win
enough games to make the playoffs.

My post Thanksgiving turd had more cohesiveness than this team last
night. I'll be watching as the games wind down, but it'll be to see
who deserves a crack at the roster next season. This may be the most
disappointing season of Giant football since the strike of '87.

Hats, I thought that if there was going to be a dropoff it would be
last season. With the age of the core talent on this team I really
thought that they'd be contending for a title this season and in the
next few seasons. I know there have been some injuries but I can't
explain the decline in performance on both lines. That and what looks
like a lack of preparation by the coaching staff is alarming.

Been around since '64, seen worse than this. Very sad, considering
recent past, but nowhere near as bad as it can get (btw, fellas, let's
not set a new definition of "bad" - although based on last night's
"performance", this team needs to improve to suck.
Offensively (certainly was offensive):
- if I can correctly call the next play 90% of the time, the opposing
defense can do so also. Dawkins seemed to know where to be and who to
hit - play after play.
Defensively (also offensive):
- Who's covering the middle of the field. There's nobody named "Who"
on the Giants' roster, is there? Somebody is supposed to be there.
That guy in the black shirt with numbers on it isn't supposed to be so
alone, I don't care how he smells.
- This is tackle football. My old high school coach taught us to
tackle. Mmy father's high school coach taught dad to tackle. It's an
old technique, it's a basic technique, it's a fundamental technique.
Coaches:
Mr. Coughlin, sir, why were you wearing such a confused look on your
face during the game? It was a football game. Your team was having
its (insert 3 letter word meaning "beast of burden usually ridden into
town on religious feast days") handed to it. Why aren't you doing
something to change what's happening.
Mr. Sheridan, the late Tom Landry could coach with a "great stone
face", you can't. Show some sign of life, dammit. Why does your
defensive game plan not fit your opponent?
Mr. Gilbride, your offensive game plan is not to be provided to the
opposing team's defensive coordinator before the game. Or, change
your play calling so the opposing team isn't able to figure out what's
coming.
The OTHER team's head coach explained the situation to his team rather
succinctly ("WE'RE TRYING TO WIN A ... FOOTBALL GAME HERE!!)
Broadcasters:
Nice apology after the fact.
Showing a replay of the previous play during the subsequent play makes
me very happy I don't pay money to watch the NFL network.

We underestimated the loss of Spags-Strahan and didn't know the oline
was gonna drop off a cliff.
The good thing tho is this is the best group of young-homegrown WR's
the Giants ever had in my almost 40 years of watching them.

That's wonderful but it doesn't really matter if he can't get the ball to
them in windy conditions which is pretty common where they play. I still
think he needs a big receiver that can jump and catch. Look what Marshall
did against good coverage on high throws.

As the game was winding down last night, I remembered sitting at the
sports bar as the 2003 season ended. I was the last guy remaining
there for the 8th straight loss, and I got upset because they switched
the channel to another game before the game clock expired. Some of us
are hopeless... or hopeful... I'm not even sure which.

Fritz was saying this may be the most disappointing year since the '87
strike year. But i seem to remember EVERY OTHER year was a
disappointment with the Fassel regime. For instance we went 7-9 after
the 2000 12-4 SB year. And who could forget the Rey Handley debacle
after the 2nd SB win, that is akin to the Sheridan mistake but at head
coach!
Shit, LAST YEAR was disappointing. But I think I may agree that this
has been the most disappointing year DEFENSIVELY that I remember, I
expected big things. Of course in the 70's after Tark left up til the
emergence of Simms in the mid 80's we couldn't get out of our own way
offensively, but we came to expect that.

This team is mentally defeated. I should've known when I heard the
guys on the FOX pregame show talking about how the Giant players were
whining about having to play on T-Day, that they were going to lose
that night.
Then I see Umenyiora pissing and moaning on the sidelines at Jacobs
and Blackburn and I now am given some visual evidence of what I've
feared for some time now, the coaches have lost the team. Gilbride the
moron needed to go the day after the team was lucky enough to win SB
XLII, Sheridan may as well. The buck may stop with Coughlin because
it's his staff, but ownership will not fire him, nor do I think he has
to be.
