Tim Tebow is signing with the New England Patriots, ESPN is reporting.

The network sent an email alert stating: "Tim Tebow will sign with
Patriots, expected to participate in minicamp Tuesday, league sources
told ESPN's Ed Werder."

Werder later Tweeted, "Bill Belichick has always spoken of Tebow with
admiration and move reunites with Josh McDaniels, who drafted Tebow in
first round" and "Just filed to ESPN: The Patriots are signing QB Tim
Tebow and expect him to be in minicamp tomorrow."

Good, I'm happy for Tebow. The Jets screwed this guy royally for no good
reason; now I hope he comes back to haunt them.

This move makes sense for them given Gronkowski's situation. I am sure
the plan is to try and play him as a H-back and pair up with Hernandez
in the 2 TE packages they love to run so much just in case Gronkowski is
not available at the start of the season. The deal is reportedly for
little money meaning they cun cut him with little impact on their salary
cap. Kudos to the Pats for a low-risk, possible high-reward signing.

Biggest signing by the Patriots since they signed Ochoconco, or maybe
Albert Haynesworth. How did those work out?

Do you think Tom Brady is looking forward to the competition for the
starting qb job?

I'd rather have Jake Ballard for that role.

And Tebow has always insisted he is a qb, and only a qb.

TOm Brady better watch out. ROFL

I'm with you ... He's done nothing but work hard and be a good teammate ...
He'll battle for the number 2 QB job ... but failing that I feel NE will find something for a dedicated guy like him to do to contribute ...

I think once the Jets found out what a stand up guy he was they knew he didn't fit in with Assholes R US aka NY Jets ...

I would love for Belichick to find a way to use Tebow effectively and
especially against the Jets. Other than the Giants winning in week 2,
the only way it could get better is if Tebow sticks it to the Jets.

My understanding was that after the Broncos signed Manning, they gave
Tebow the choice of being traded to Jacksonville or the jests. He made
the dumb choice.

Did he think he was going to save all those souls in godless NY?
Possibly. He was exremely naîve to think he could play for an
organization ruled by devils.

He believed Rex who told him he'd be number 2 QB ... and have other plays for him to keep him busy ... a lot like Hostetler was for us at one time ...

Not with Tony "Soprano" as the OC....... Now there's a Parcells guy
who didn't quite cut it.

I think Tebow went to the Jets becuase he figured it would be easier to
unseat Sanchez versus Gabbert. Also, Chad Henne is the backup at
Jacksonville and he is a better passer than Tebow. I heard on NFLRadio
that Tebow looked like he was having trouble picking up the action
downfield today in his first practice with NE. What a surprise.

Last summer Pat Kirwan said not only was Tebow the worst QB in Jets
training camp, it WASN"T EVEN CLOSE. IIRC, PK said that Tebow looked
lost, couldn't make about half of the throws a NFL QB MUST be able to
make and generally showed little ability to read the opposing defenses
and be able to adequately operate the offense. Oh yeah, he also
criticized his accuracy which he blamed on terrible mechanics and
Tebow's arm strength. I believe he said something to the effect of, "he
doesn't have a NFL arm". Ouch.

I should have qualified PK's arm comment a little bit more. His arm
strength is there when he throws properly. The problem is he rarely
throws with proper mechanics.

His biggest issue with his upper body mechanics is that left elbow. He
almost always has it too low as it should be at shoulder height and is
usually pointing straight down.

Then there is his footwork or lack thereof. His running ability hurts
him greatly here as he has happy feet. That may be good for a penguin
but for a NFL QB it is usually a death sentence.

I always remember the coaches in pee wee telling us that a throw starts
at the toes and travels all the way up through the body culminating with
the release. If you don't start with proper footwork it is impossible to
consistently throw accurately, hence Tebow's poor completion percentage.

Take an out pattern for example. Tebow has a habit of having his front
foot point towards the sideline instead of at his target. This forces
the front leg to bow inward awkwardly. This then results in poor
velocity and an extended throwing motion. That in turn produces a long
release giving opposing corners plenty of time to react and close any
separation that a receiver is able to achieve.

A pass on an out pattern may only cover 7 yards in distance downfield
from the line of scrimmage but is actually traveling 40-50 yards
depending on where he is throwing from on the field. With the speed of
NFL corners you cannot get away with these kind of flaws in your
mechanics consistently.

Of course Lombardi took a Tebow-like QB and turned him into a Paul Hornung.
With agents and endorsement deals today, I guess a QB would not want to be
downsized into RB who can throw the option pass.

Also... it's too bad we no longer have an NFL Europe. It would be the best
locale to retrain Tebow as it worked for other players.
