Could someone explain how an umbrella is mistaken for a rifle?

I'm not an expert on Rifles but every umbrella i've ever seen looks
absolutely nothing like a rifle.

actually it looked like a samurai sword.
they showed the guy on the news and in the paper and it did look just like a
saword in a scabbard.
he was carrying it over his shoulder on a strap the way they do in samuraie
movies.

I was looking at this "umbrella" on the news, if you walk through a
crowded mall with this thing you have to expect to get the attention
of the police and mall security. You have to question why someone
would not use common sense and leave the darn thing at home.

Reminds me of a case a number of years ago where a kid had a toy
gun that looked very real and ended up getting shot and
killed by police.

After all if you're a policeman you have to go into
the mall assuming this gun is real and the person
carrying it will use it.

And if you're the one carrying the umbrellla you
have to recogniz the police are going to assume
the gun is real and that you'll use it..

This from someone who has a number of
police in his family.

So he should use common sense and use a standard umbrellla. If you
carry one of these umbrellas you deserve what you get including
gettting shot by pollice.

You may have the right to carry it but the at the end
of the day the police have the right to be alive and'
go home to their family.

If the pollice see this thing that looks like a weapon they
have to assume it is a weapon and the person carrying
it will use it. If walk out of your house with an umbrella
like this you assume the risk of how polcie will react..

You walk out of the house with on of these umbrellas
and you may as well have a giant neon sign
over your head saying you're committing suicide by
cop.

they don't have the right to shoot him but the guy carrying the umbrella
surely knew what it looked like and probably thought it was funny.

I have to side with the police on this.

You walk into a mall with this umbrella you're telling the police
1. you have a gun and 2. you're willing to use it.

You can defend your right to carry this umbrella
all the way through the morgue.

Another fine liberal who wants a police state. So refreshing. I know I
trust our government, they NEVER fuck anything up. LOL
