I heard tonight (second hand) that a milwaukee radio station was reporting that
the Patriots had offered something like two firsts and a couple of second round
picks for levens. Has anyone else heard this. Like I said, i did not hear the
report myself but it was on the local sport radio call in station.

I don't think there's any truth to it. The Boston Globe would be reporting it,
the local radio would be reporting it, you would hear nothing but these rumors
up here in New England if they were real. So I doubt it.

Two firsts and a couple of seconds. The Packers would be sending Levens FEDX
overnight. I guess that the Pats would have to work out a deal with Levens
before anything could happen. That would be a good deal for the Pack, though.

Haven't heard it, seems unlikely to be true, but I'd take it in the blink
of an eye. With that kind of ammunition you can go anywhere you want in
the draft two years in a row. Dynasties are built on such as that.

If this is true, then you make the trade. Very similar to the mistake
the Vikings made when they acquired Herschell Walker. Levens is a
very good back, but not worth two # 1's and two # 2's.

Thanks for the input. I agree that there is more than likely nothing to the
rumor. I haven't heard anything on it today, but then again i don't get to
listen to the news much. I really don't think any team would give up that much
for levens. Heck I would almost have to think twice about giving up that much
for Favre. Almost

Just wanted add my two cents worth...I think it would be a great trade, let

There is no logic in such a scenario. A team could simply negotiate
directly with Levens and sign him and give up less then that without
ever even bothering to contact the Packers. Why bother with a trade?
Sounds like someones wishful thinking to me. What is the price for a
franchise player, 2 firsts? Whatever it is it isn't as much as the
scenario above.

I like Levens but I think he's making a mistake here. I don't see the
Packers losing anything at all. Considering what I've seen thus far, I
believe it could end up being a Sterling Sharpe situation. Instead of
Levens getting 90% of the carries and yards, Harris and Jervey could
easily combine to be much more productive overall.

No, they can't negotiate with Levens. If teams could negotiate with
him, someone would be doing it by now. His rights still belong to the
Packers and, barring a trade, he has to sign with them or sit out a
year.

There was no logic, but there is now. There is a deadline, long since
passed, for signing another team's free agents. No one can sign Levens
now except the Packers, unless the Packers either trade or release him.
If anyone has the deadline itself, please post it.

He could negotiate "with permission" from Green Bay.

I'd imagine something like that would be kept quiet for awhile, though.

Not only that, but what team has two firsts and two seconds available
to trade?....unless you are looking at the '99 and '00 drafts.

While the trade seems pretty unlikely, I would think that if any team might
be in good shape with picks, it would be New England. Didn't they get some
for Curtis Martin? And are there still getting something for Bill
Parcells?

Agreed that the trades are unlikely.

Allow me to start another unlikely rumor: the rights to Levens to StL for the
rights to CB Ryan McNeil.

Any other whacky rumors we can start? Right for Levens for the rights for

Um... it's not a tag-line, it's a .sig file. A tag line is like the one
below. Get the jargon right!

And my .sig says nothing about being under a desk. I assume you mean
retrieving the objects. I don't retrieve them. Once they are there, if
they are small and round (like your brain) and are unreachable, then they
are in my domain. And I ask Fester get them for me. And he usually
tells me to go Jabber myself. Reading is so important

Not much chance of that, Herr Seigheiloff. Why not stick to your
regurgitation of Rush's force-fed misinformation, so at least you'll be
able to use his words, instead of your own poorly chosen ones?

If you'd followed the thread at all, you'd know that he does not, in fact, know his grammar.  His punctuation (which is a part of grammar) was flawed.  Do a little research and you won't have to make incorrect claims.

I was right. His next reply was, in fact, a variation of "same to you
and more of it." Go back to AOL before you embarrass yourself further.
