Oddly enough, 2019 marks the 5th time in
the last 6 years that the Cowboys have
opened week 1 @ home vs the Giants.
7 years ago they opened @ the Giants.
8 years ago they opened @ the Jets.

I have no idea why the NFL has done that
Giants @ Dallas week 1 opener 5 of the
last 6 seasons & have fixated on New York
teams vs the Cowboys in the week 1 opener
7 of the last 9 years (6 vs the Giants,
1 vs the Jets).

Hearken back to the first game ever at
the new Jerryville (now called AT&T sta-
dium), versus the Giants, the Cowboys
losing that one 31-33 in the 2nd game
of the 2009 season.

Hearken back to the Giants Super Bowl
season (2011) when the Cowboys played
the Jets in the week 1 opener, so perhaps
Giants fans might support opening ver-
sus a non-Cowboys team or having the
Cowboys open versus the Jets might help
the Giants win a Super Bowl again. (-:

Aside from the apparent recent NFL fas-
cination with the Cowboys opener being
in Dallas versus the Giants 5 of the
last 6 seasons, your comment prompts
me to investigate Cowboys week 1 games
2010 to 2019 and tally up what's hap-
pened:

5 home week 1 openers in Dallas, 3-1
with 2019 opener we'll soon see who wins.

5 away week 1 openers, 1-4 with the
Cowboys only road win being vs the Giants.

Cowboys 4-5 record in week 1 openers
2010 to 2018.

2018 week 1 opponent @ Carolina Panthers,
Cowboys lost 8-16 & 2018 Panthers were 7-9,
tied for 17th-best NFL W-L record in 2018.

2017 week 1 opponent in Dallas, New York Giants,
Cowboys won 19-3 & 2017 Giants were 3-13,
3rd-worst NFL W-L record in 2017.

2016 week 1 opponent in Dallas, New York Giants,
Cowboys lost 19-20 & 2016 Giants were 11-5,
5th-best NFL W-L record in 2016, wild card rep
that lost in the 1st round of the playoffs.

2015 week 1 opponent in Dallas, New York Giants,
Cowboys won 27-26 & 2015 Giants were 6-10, tied
for 8th-worst NFL W-L record in 2015.

2014 week 1 opponent @ San Francisco 49ers,
lost 17-28 & 2014 49ers were 8-8, tied for
17th-best NFL W-L record in 2014.

2013 week 1 opponent in Dallas, New York Giants,
won 36-31 & 2013 Giants were 7-9, tied for
19th-best NFL W-L record in 2013.

2012 week 1 opponent @ New York Giants,
Cowboys won 24-17 & 2012 Giants were 9-7,
14th-best NFL W-L record in 2012.

2011 week 1 opponent @ New York Jets,
Cowboys lost 24-27 & 2011 Jets were 8-8,
13th-best NFL W-L record in 2011.

2010 week 1 opponent @ Washington Redskins,
Cowboys lost 7-13 & 2010 Redskins were
6-10, 7th-worst NFL W-L record in 2010.

Your data seems to show whoever Dallas open up against (Giants) they seem to have a terrible season..

Terrible seasons? In seasons when the Cowboys
opened week 1 versus the Giants, 5 seasons,
the Cowboys have finished in the top half
of NFL W-L records in 4 of those 5 seasons:
2017 11th-best, 2016 2nd-best, 2013 14th-best,
2012 15th-best.

1 of those, the Cowboys had their worst sea-
son of the 2010-2018 range, a 4-12 record in
2015.

The data reported on the Cowboys' opponents
in week 1 NFL W-L records 2010 to 2018, but
with your statement, what the hey, I'll report
on how the Cowboys played in every season
they opened week 1 versus the Giants, all 5
of them, from 2010 to 2018, and what the hey, ...

... while I'm at it I'll add how the played in
every season that they didn't open week 1 versus
the Giants:

Overall record 2010-2018: 79 wins, 65 losses,
5 playoff appearances with 2 wins, 3 losses.

. 2018 week 1 opponent @ Carolina Panthers,
. Cowboys lost 8-16 & 2018 Panthers were 7-9,
. tied for 17th-best NFL W-L record in 2018.

Cowboys at 11-5 tied for 8th-best NFL W-L
record in 2018, NFC East champ, 1-1 W-L
in playoffs.

. 2017 week 1 opponent in Dallas, New York Giants,
. Cowboys won 19-3 & 2017 Giants were 3-13,
. 3rd-worst NFL W-L record in 2017.

Cowboys at 9-7 tied for 11th-best NFL W-L
record in 2017, didn't make it to the playoffs.

. 2016 week 1 opponent in Dallas, New York Giants,
. Cowboys lost 19-20 & 2016 Giants were 11-5,
. 5th-best NFL W-L record in 2016, wild card rep
. that lost in the 1st round of the playoffs.

Cowboys at 13-3 had the 2nd-best NFL W-L
record in 2016, NFC East Champ, but lost their
sole playoff game.

. 2015 week 1 opponent in Dallas, New York Giants,
. Cowboys won 27-26 & 2015 Giants were 6-10, tied
. for 8th-worst NFL W-L record in 2015.

Cowboys at 4-12 tied for the 3rd-worst NFL
W-L record in 2015.

. 2014 week 1 opponent @ San Francisco 49ers,
. lost 17-28 & 2014 49ers were 8-8, tied for
. 17th-best NFL W-L record in 2014.

Cowboys at 12-4 tied for the best NFL W-L
record in 2014, NFC East champ, 1-1 in the
playoffs, season ending on a controversial
call reversing a Dez Bryant catch that was
initially ruled down at the half yard line.

That call should *not* have been overturned,
per the following video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtcjUE8_QV0

However, unknown how that game would've
played out & had the Cowboys won, they
still would have to beat the Seahawks in
Seattle (they beat them there earlier in
2014) and the Patriots in the Super Bowl.

. 2013 week 1 opponent in Dallas, New York Giants,
. won 36-31 & 2013 Giants were 7-9, tied for
. 19th-best NFL W-L record in 2013.

Cowboys at 8-8 tied for 14th-best NFL
W-L record in 2013.

. 2012 week 1 opponent @ New York Giants,
. Cowboys won 24-17 & 2012 Giants were 9-7,
. 14th-best NFL W-L record in 2012.

Cowboys at 8-8 tied for 15th-best NFL
W-L record in 2012.

. 2011 week 1 opponent @ New York Jets,
. Cowboys lost 24-27 & 2011 Jets were 8-8,
. 13th-best NFL W-L record in 2011.

Cowboys at 8-8 tied for 13th-best NFL
W-L record in 2011.

. 2010 week 1 opponent @ Washington Redskins,
. Cowboys lost 7-13 & 2010 Redskins were
. 6-10, 7th-worst NFL W-L record in 2010.

Cowboys at 6-10 tied for 7th-word NFL

Your wording was unclear as you said

"Your data seems to show whoever Dallas open up against (Giants) they seem to have a terrible season."
Pardons for misunderstanding what you meant.

In any case,

The opponents the Cowboys played in week 1
2010 to 2018 had overall records of 65 wins,
79 losses, average of 7.22 wins & 8.78 losses
per season, 1 playoff appearance with 1 loss.

The Cowboys overall record 2010-2018: 79 wins,
65 losses, average of 8.78 wins & 7.22 losses
per season, 5 playoff appearances with 2 wins,
3 losses.
