How does the practice squad work? The players have to clear waivers?

I'm happy for Billy Davis. I hope he makes it. Oronde sounded
promising :(

Yes. By the final cut deadline, I think each team has to
cut down to 48 players. At that time, they have an option of
naming a five player practice squad which must consist of players
with fairly limited experience. At any point in time during the
season, another team may claim any member off of your practice
squad and put him on their active roster. A team may block such
a move by putting the player on their own active roster.

They cut to 53. 7, plus the 3rd string QB are inactive each week.

The 5 player developmental squad is seperate and must consist of
players with less than 1 year on any teams' 53-man roster. In
addition, the player cannot be on any teams' d-squad for more than 2
yeats.

The player must clear the waiver wire. But, if another team wants to
put the player on their 53-man roster, the player has the right to go
to the other team. I believe the d-squad payment is around $50K for
the year. Active roster rookie minimum is around $125K.

Just some curious thoughts about the signing of Deion and the pros and
cons for each team.

Cowboys Pros:
1. Might be able to offer more money then the 49ers.
2. Might get to play wide receiver.
3. Chance to prove that he makes a difference no matter where he goes.

49ers Pros:
1. Already knows what to expect
2. Chance to win back to back Championships.
3. More then likely will play for the Giants next year so playing for
the Niners is would make more sense for his family.
4.Already has a huge home in the hills next to his buddy MC Hammmer.

I think the endorsements are a wash. Deion can make as much as he wants
too wearing either teams jersey. I think it comes down to a couple of
things for both teams. Money from the Cowboys and the ablility to play
wide receiver and from the Niners the ability to play baseball in San
Francisco and football.
