The Browns have named Scott Rehberg the starting RG (although
that can change--now it *IS* his spot to lose). In addition, perhaps
disgusted with the total inability of the backups to protect the
QB, the Browns have signed OL Matt Willig (from Green Bay), and have
reportedly sign OG Alex Bernstein (NYJ) as well. So far there's been
no confirmation of the Bernstein signing, so I left that one off for now.
With the recent cuts and now signings, we're sitting at 83 players

I can't find the info regarding the salaries of the players left
unprotected for the expansion draft. I do know we passed on Willig in
the expansion draft but I don't remember why exactly. Was it salary,
age, or ability?

The AP wire confirmed the Berstein signing:
Browns Sign Alex Bernstein
BEREA, Ohio (AP) — The Cleveland Browns brought in their second new
lineman in two days Wednesday, signing right guard Alex Bernstein.
Bernstein, a 6-foot-3, 325-pounder, was waived on Monday by the New
York Jets. He was signed as a free agent by the Jets before the 1998
season after spending one year with the Baltimore Ravens.
On Tuesday, the Browns signed tackle Matt Willig, who played in all 16
regular-season games for the Green Bay Packers last year.

It was neither. We took Michael Blair first, and then the Packers
pulled Willig. We probably would have taken him if not for that.

I don't think they pulled him back, I'll check my notes when I get home
from work. Why would they cut Willig in Feb if they thought enough to
pull him back?

I was pretty sure they pulled him back. They may have just done it
because they were unsure of depth at the position at the time of the
expansion draft, maybe Willig did something after that to anger the GB
coaches, or maybe it was just GB needing to open up a little bit of
salary cap space so they then cut a guy they didn't think would be
hard to replace. I could be wrong, though.
I checked my notes and after selecting Michael Blair from Green Bay,
they pulled back Roell Preston leaving Matt Willig, Reggie White and
Robert Brooks unprotected.
