First, the dead rumors. Carolina signed Richard Huntley, who
fans at least had kicked around as a possible RB candidate. Kansas
City signed LB Glenn Cadrez, with whom the Browns had had some contract
discussions earlier this year.

Well, today the Browns signed some added depth on the lines.
No, not T-Bone. The Browns signed DT Mike Thompson, who had been
working out with the team despite being an UFA. They also signed
rookie free agent John Raveche, an OT out of Princeton. By my count
(unless I screwed up on the roster exemptions for NFL Europe players--
were Monroe or O'Connor on the practice squad for at least 8 games?)
we only have one roster spot left...T-Bone! T-Bone! T-Bone!

All I could find on Raveche is his basic size (6-5, 300) and the
fact that he didn't miss a game while at Princeton.

Anyway, here's the roster update...

As always Glenn, thanks for the well researched informative post. I
was glad to see the Browns still addressing the Line needs,
particularly the offensive line. Nice to see a young O lineman that
can set back and develop into, perhaps, one of our lineman of the
future. But for current need I hope they sign T-Bone. I think he can
still play, but if the Browns choose not to sign him, I hope they let
him sign for a day and retire a Brown. I'm hard pressed to think of
anyone that has been as loyal and committed to the Browns as T-Bone.
He deserves to be given the opportunity to retire a Cleveland Brown.
He has always considered himself a Brown regardless of where he
played, and was one of the few who had the gonads to stand up and rip
Modell during Modells move to Baltimore.
I gather the O lineman the Browns signed was an undrafted free
agent. I'd rather have some top picks in the lineup, but O-Line is a
strange place. There, more than anywhere else I can think of,
undrafted or low draft picks can turn out to be real players once they
develop. So, heres hoping. I'm also pleased that the Browns continue
to work on the D Line. If we have a strength D-line would have to be
it. But rather than saying OK we are set well enough there they
continue to try and improve. Building on their (only?) strength. Makes
sense to me. Now if during next years off season they start building
that O-Line. Not, mind you, that signing Verba, Johnson etc. wasn't a
significant improvement. But, go for future quality lineman and make
RB next years priority at all costs and then build a line to give him
some holes to hit. Assuming, hopefully prematurely, that Jackson isn't
the runner we need. With some luck he might just step up and surprise
a "lot" of people. He is a Miami player and they have a pretty good
record for producing quality running backs. Playing behind E. James,
kept him from starting earlier than he did, but it also allowed him to
watch, and hopefully learn, from a legitimate star RB.Again, heres
hoping that Jackson turns out to be the man.
