Carmen and co. have pulled Bernie Kosar's loge from underneath him at CBS!
Bad move fella's. I guess they just revoked the right, right outta the blue.
Because Carmen and Kosar apparently don't see eye to eye. Bad move.

"Former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar has quietly had his Stadium loge
taken back by team management. Kosar had received the loge after helping
late Browns owner Al Lerner land the NFL expansion franchise in 1998. Kosar
and Browns President Carmen Policy, however, do not have a very good
relationship."

Ever wonder what it would be like if Bernie's group had gotten the
ownership? They probably wouldn't have had the financial strength that
Lerner had. But I wonder what the front office would have been, or done
differently.

The article insinuates a reason, but offers little substantiation. Reporter
Roger Brown has a habit of making unsubstantiated inuendos. Did Roger Brown
attempt to contact Bernie Kosar and ask him about the loge ? Kosar and
Policy have been known to disagree on the club's direction in the past, but
that may not necessarily be the reason his loge was pulled, if it was
"pulled" at all. It could be that Kosar relinquished his rights to it.
Perhaps Kosar is too busy to keep it. Kosar and wife Babett have 5 kids
together. Kosar lives and works in Boca Raton, Florida. Perhaps Bernie
sold his interest in the Browns, and along with it, the right to the loge.
We know Bernie was in the hunt to influence the team's direction under Al
Lerner's majority ownership. Question is whether he really wanted to give
up his business interests in South Florida to take on a management position
overseen by Policy, the team's President and other minority owner. You must
realize by now that Al Lerner was not going to displace Carmen Policy with
Bernie Kosar. Perhaps Bernie had seen the handwriting on the wall, that
son Randy Lerner is now so much under the influence of Policy that there's
no hope of Bernie ever influening the club's direction on coaching and
personnel decisions. Perhaps Kosar came to the realization that Randy
Lerner would not sell his majority interest. These speculations are at
least as good as what Roger Brown has offered, if not more so. Trust me, if
the story had legs, it would have been published under Tony Grossi's byline.

Regardless, I don't really like the way Bernie, amongst other former Browns,
have been treated by the new regime.

How should the Lerner ownership have treated retired Browns players ? Formed
an advisory committee of retired Browns players ? Can you can run a
professional football franchise by committee ? Offered retired Browns
players a large loge for their reunions or other gatherings ? The Lerner
ownership did install the Browns Hall of Fame and has commemorated signicant
retired Browns players with plaques on the southern Stadium wall, including
a plaque for Paul Brown, something Art Modell would never have done. How
have other NFL franchises treated their retired players relative to Browns
franchise ?
Exactly how did the Ravens treat Johnny Unitas while he was alive ? By
giving him an on-the-field visitor's pass ? Should retired Browns players
routinely be offered on-the-field visitor's passes ? Wasn't Jim Brown
involved with the franchise that way during the two Palmer years ?

Bernie was part of the camp that was in contest with the Lerners to buy and
build this franchise. I think somewhere along the line, Bernie pissed off
the Lerners et al.

Maybe Bernie should have paid for it ! The loge that is. He's got the
money and deserves no preferential treatment as anyone. Not a bad guy but
he never won us anything !
Has anyone noticed our defense was better as an expansion team then it
is now .....Just a thought !

Could be that Bernie and other former players want to see the
Brown's build a winning franchise, and with the (IMO) poor (to be
kind) talent evaluation, and direction of the team under the new
corporate ownership there have been obvious, and probably heated,
disagreements between the current and former leaders of the team.
Disagree with Carmen or Butch too much and you are history. Sorta like
building a strong franchise from the start....History and I'm not
thrilled about future chances either.

Yeah, but Bernie was instrumental in the Lernar group getting the
franchise. I may be mistaken, but I also seem to recall some financial
input from Bernie. Considering his assistance, as well as his position
with most Brown's fans, plus his financial involvement you would think
he would merit a nice place to view games..at a minimum.

That shouldn't be hard, just look at what the current group has done
in terms of players and do pretty much the opposite. That should put
you close.

Some ?? How much ? Lerner wouldn't have gotten the franchise without
Bernie ? Doubt it. Bernie's made his input with the idea he'd get
involved in the team's management. When that didn't materialize, whether
because he was too busy, or he was shut out by Policy, he quietly sold his
interest. The sale included his rights to the loge.

Oh yeah. We'd have been in the Super Bowl yesterday. Bernie would have
been owner, general manager, and on the field quarterback coach for Couch...
er, no, he wouldn't have drafted Couch at all, he would have immediately
gotten Holcomb off the waiver wire, who by now would have been reviewing the
first proof of his bust at the Hall of Fame.

There's one thing Bernie has you pinned on correctly. You're all
wannabees. You all want the Supa Bo so bad you'd sell your own souls and yo
mamas to boot to get it, and you spend countless hours hypothesizing on
things like, "..... if only Bernie's group had gotten the ownership."
Yeah, if only we had an intelligent group of fans on the Browns
newsgroup......

Try some new material, sonny. That one was used on you first.
