was scanning through archives and found this comment from Geof in
January 2001 about Mike Brown and when Katie might take over.
I know many of us wondered if she could handle the job and probably
more than one said no way and some said maybe... but here was a comment
by Geof' on that topic.....

Like I said - many of us wondered and pondered this, but I was thinking
about Geof and am somewhat surprised he hasn't surfaced during the year
just to give his input.

Try www.gfmorris.net He's still around but seems to have ceased caring
about the Bengals. Shame. He added a lot of good and lively
discussion to this NG, though.

Guess he wasn't kidding. One can argue about whether or not MB is still
"in charge" but that is a matter of semantics.
This declaration came immediately following the 2002 season opener
against San Diego. I can honestly say I appreciate where Geof was coming
from. My brother had an extra ticket to the game and invited me and I
remember it vividly. It was brutal. In case anyone need's a refresher:
- San Diego 34, Cincinnati 6
- Temperatures were in the low 90s that day. Bengals players were
laying on the field all game long apparently out of shape. The same
could not be said for Marty's boys.
- The Bengals started the game with a delay of game penalty on their
very first offensive play, an ominous start on the way to a 2-14 season.
I told my brother never to take me to another game after that.

working full-time and traveling to broadcast the D-I hockey games of my
alma mater, UAH. That year whipped my ass, and I never got back on the

The Marvin Lewis Era sure has been one hell of a lot of fun, especially
this season. I know a lot of Steelers fans, and every time they start
talking about "how the Bengals won't beat us in the playoffs", I have a
one-word answer: "Standings."
Damn, y'all. The last time you could give that answer as a Bengals
fan, kids in Ohio wore those fugly-ass goggles because Chris Sabo
somehow made them cool.
And stebain ... no, I was not Kantou. I probably would have punched
Kantou in the mouth. ;)

I hope all y'all are kickin' ass, that your Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanzaa
seasons have been joyous, and that 2006 finds you all well ... and that
it finds the Bengals with a couple damn playoff victories.

used to post from time to time that dropped off
the radar. Guys like Dan Eilerman, Mike Tissandier,
the "Cousin Brucey" Guy out in AZ, a guy from
Montreal or Quebec (I think). Hell, even the original

Also Costanza from Las Vegas and for the really old-timers how about
Rev Lovejoy and Anthony (Nigro--I believe?) Anthony was a diehard
Bengals fan who managed a pizza shop in Phillie. His sig had "Car-Car
3:16 in it if anyone remembers that.
There were a couple of others who posted with the Rev all the time but
there names escape me. They were very knowledgable about the game and
a couple of them eventually set up their own Bengals websites. whether
any of them are still around, I have no idea.
And how about Mike Oberly--whose sig said "Rain can't wet me when I
have my poui in my hand." No matter how many times we asked, he never
did explain that.

I remember Rev, I can't help but think that he and
Anthony left around the time that LeBeau took
over. I disappeared for a while myself, but that
was because work kinda took precedence.

Mike T. did, but it didn't last too long. Last I heard
he's out in CA now after having gotten his PhD
from Ohio State.

I'll be honest: I'm glad you guys have dragged me back in. There's
only but a handful of Bengals fans in this area, so it's hard to find
people who understand what the last 15 years have been like. :)

I had one friend decide that he was going to give up on his team this
year. He looked at me and said, "Can I hop on the Bengals' bandwagon?"
Now, I'm torn ... half of me wants to say, "Hell no! You haven't
followed this team the last 15 years!" But then I remembered that he's
a Saints fan.
