Too bad. It was probably a year too early for those who would like to
see him as HC of the Bears. If we're extremely lucky, maybe he'll
want to be a QB coach again for awhile. Doubt it, though.

What about Mooch for OC? Then, if Jauron doesnt do well next year, we
could have the option of promoting him to HC or just getting someone
completely new.
Tho I doubt Jauron would want an OC who he'd be afraid would take his
job. That's probably the only point in Shoop's favor. :)

That's true. But I was trying to be at least a bit realistic.
Shoop's not going anywhere (unless he wants to work for his brother -
please, please, oh, please). We're in the market for a QB coach (even
if its highly unlikely Mooch wants to be one) :)
Deep breath......
I did a good job this year, specifically in the fourth quarter of the Saints
game, of reminding myself that I'm not going to let a football team make me
miserable. I have too many other things in my life to feel good about
(unlike Packer fans...) And I have to give kudos to this board for remaining
overly positive about things. I hate to always just talk about the
negative...but....(blood pressure rising)
Look at the 49ers. I despise them because they've been so successful. I know
that's petty, but what the hell. Here's a team that was about as bad as you
can get in 1999-2000, and they've already completely overhauled into
legitimate contenders in a four-year span. And on top of that, their
organization isn't satisfied with a coach that has four playoff appearances
under his belt.
And here were are in Chicago, with the Milquetoast of the Midway in charge,
and the organization is "fully behind him as the right man for this job." A
coach that "likes" everyone (in monotone) "I like Dez White, I like Leon
Johnson, I like Henry Burris, I like John Madden....." blah blah. Mr. Arkush
especially likes to take exception to the fans that say "We need another
Mike Ditka", and I'm not saying that. But I want to hear our damn coach
stand up and say "we're sick of losing, I can't stand it, and we're going to
make changes until we win, dammit." Not "even though (x player) was really
bad this year, we like him and believe in him and he'll be our starter this
year."
Here I go with the negativity again, but how am I not to think that we're
going to be in this piss-ass cyclical rebuilding process with head-weak
leadership forever. If Jauron is canned after '03, and Angelo hires a coach
for 3 seasons, he'll want an extension, and round and round and round it
goes.
I think I'm going to punch the friggin balls off myself.....
Back. Better. One last interesting observation. For those of you that have
attended the Bears Fan Convention before, there has always been a session at
which fans can speak to the coaches and management. Strangely, I don't see
any mention of such sessions this year. Could it be they're afraid Hub can't
run interference when he's face-to-face with the fans? Interesting.
Thanks, venting is good.

Be honest, we love the idea of ANYONE besides Shoop being OC.
Good point.

I'd take a thousand monkeys with headsets over Shoop...

The whole thing was good but this point esepcially hit home.
Cleveland fires (for all practical purposes) its DC after a playoff
appearance. How many coaches around the league would tolerate John
Shoop? Not just tolerate but openly support him *and* his "system" at
every opportunity.
This is such BS.
I think the problem had less to do with passing more and more to do
with his habit of going into a shell when he got a lead (thus
subsequently blowing it). In that respect he was a kin to Jauron.
